ARE YOU A V A ILA B L E ? P h i l i p was one of the Christians who fled from Jerusalem to Sa maria because of intense persecution. Immediately he began preaching Christ to the Samaritans. The people responded. There were many conver sions, many miracles, and many healed. In the midst of this successful cam paign the Holy Spirit spoke to Philip and told him to go to Gaza. He must leave this important work in Sama ria and go to a desert place where there were no people. He arose and went. Without a moment’s hesitation or questioning he was on his way as directed. This really is a challenge to Christians, GO—HE WENT. When he arrived at the designated spot he saw a chariot approaching. Again the Spirit spoke to him, “ Go to the chariot.” Although the chariot was the conveyance of an important person recognizable as a government official, he again did not hesitate. He ran to the chariot. As the Eunuch listened, he was convinced and asked Philip if he might be baptized a believer as they were passing a place where there was water. B e f o r e c o n c e d i n g to the Eunuch’s request, Philip answered him, “ If you believe with all your heart you may be baptized.” No easy answers from Philip. It had to be real belief, belief in Jesus Christ as a Saviour. Listen to the Eunuch’s an swer, “ I believe with all my heart that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.” The chariot was halted, both went into the water, and the Eunuch was baptized, a new-born child of God. Where would you have hesitated or stopped? When the Holy Spirit first spoke to you and told you to go to Gaza? When He asked you to go up to the chariot, or when the ques tion was asked about the Scripture reading? Philip was constantly avail able. He moved ahead with every prompting of the Spirit. He was avail able for the Spirit’s direction. He responded quickly and surely. To be available to the Holy Spirit is a re quirement for being used of God as a soul winner. Today someone may be ready and waiting for the word of invitation. W ill you go, will you run, will you speak? Philip did and the Eunuch found Christ.
