M o t h e r ’ s heart beat a bit faster than usual as she watched her son march with the graduates of the university. Although his “ graduation suit” (Mark’s term for the cap and gown) was identical to the others, it somehow looked different on Bill. There was an air of quiet dignity and subdued joy about the 21-year- old which made his parents rejoice in what God, the Father had wrought in their son. Now Bill has enrolled for further training in seminary. He desires the fullest possible training for serving the Lord. His parents see him as a young man fully responsible to and answering the call of the Saviour and Lord of his life. Better than three years ago this family experienced another kind of “ graduation” day. Its first bom was promoted to glory while he was just a college sophomore. It has been a deeply moving experience to this mother to realize that divine Councils planned a different course for her sons. One was to accomplish his work for the Lord in a comparatively short time, as men count time; the other left to fight for the souls of his generation and to wrest them from the power of the Adversary. Many years a g o this mother’s imagination was fired to the point of serious action by a statement made by the late Dr. Harry Rimmer. “ STRAIGHT AHEAD LIES YESTER DAY” always brings to mind the truth and challenge of Proverbs 4:23: “ Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.” Every today bears the imprint of yesterday. We Christians dare not waste one moment of this precious commodity called TIME as we view it in the light of eternity. Each to day speaks volumes of a yesterday wisely spent or misspent. May it please God whether we be a graduate or oldster, in prime of health or on a shelf, to make and keep us usable, never forgetting that “ Straight ahead lies yesterday.” He may b r e a k through the clouds on yesterday’s to morrow!
