CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT PAUL D. KESSLER

Chief Master Sergeant Paul D. Kessler is the twelfth State Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Minnesota Air National Guard. He represents the highest level of enlisted leadership in the Minnesota Air National Guard. Chief Kessler is responsible for interests regarding welfare, readiness, morale, proper utilization, and progress of the state’s 2000 enlisted personnel. Chief Kessler entered the active duty Air Force in 1983, graduating from Air Force Basic Military Training as an honor graduate. He completed the Ground Radio Communications Specialist Technical School at Keesler AFB, Miss. He moved to his first duty station at Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan for an unaccompanied long tour of eighteen months. He served as a Ground Radio Repairman in an air traffic control environment during his tour there. Later, he was stationed at Indian Springs AAF, Nev. for the remainder of his active duty enlistment. In 1986, Chief Kessler left active duty Palace Chase. His first traditional duty assignment in the Minnesota Air National Guard was with the 210th Electronics Installation Squadron as a Radio Systems Installer. In 1993, he became an Installation Team Chief and later volunteered to become the Unit Career Advisor. In 1998, Chief Kessler was selected as the 133rd Mission Support Group First Sergeant. Chief Kessler had two primary employers in the civilian sector for the twelve years he served as a Drill Status Guardsman. He worked as an Engineering Technician for Honeywell and later worked as a Field Engineer for a computer graphics firm.

In 1999, he was hired as a full-time technician to manage the base Network Control Center for the 133rd Communications Flight. Chief Kessler was promoted to Plans and Resources Branch Chief in 2001. As a Chief Master Sergeant, Chief Kessler has contributed at the Wing level as a 3-term (6 years) President of the Chiefs Council. He facilitated the Minnesota Combined Council conference for 8 years before becoming a Command Chief. From November 2008 to February 2009, he deployed to Bagram AB Afghanistan as the Chief of the 455th Expeditionary Communications Squadron. In October 2011 Chief Kessler became the 13th Command Chief of the 133rd Airlift Wing. He served in the position until becoming the State Command Chief on December 3, 2016.
