CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT MIKAEL “MACK” SUNDIN Chief Master Sergeant Mikael “Mack” Sundin is the Command Chief for the 140th Wing, Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, Colorado. As the Command Chief, he advises the wing commander on matters impacting the enlisted force such as proper utilization of personnel, quality of enlisted leadership, management/supervisor training, operations tempo and quality of life. Further, Chief Sundin is responsible for monitoring compliance with Air National Guard and Air Force standards including those standards governing conduct, performance, appearance, and professional military education. He serves on advisory councils and works to insure a close relationship with the local community. Chief Sundin maintains as liaison between the wing commander and enlisted force and staff members, and communicates with the wing commander on issues, concerns, and morale of the enlisted force. Also, Chief Sundin serves as the functional manager for assigned 140th Wing First Sergeants and performs other duties as outlined and directed by the 140th Wing Commander.
Chief Sundin entered the Air National Guard (ANG) in 1996 enlisting with the Minnesota Air National Guard as an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Apprentice. In this role, he worked on the F-16 airframe in support the 148th Fighter Wing operations. In August of 2002 Chief Sundin was assigned to 140th Maintenance Squadron, Colorado Air National Guard (COANG), Buckley Air Force Base, Colo. His extensive background in the COANG includes positions as: Corrosion Control NCOIC; Aircraft Fuel Systems NCOIC; Maintenance Production Superintendent, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) 2012-2013 and Fabrication Element Supervisor. In 2015 Chief Sundin was assigned to the Air
National Guard Office of the Command Chief, JB Andrews, Md. Serving in the role of Manager, Senior Enlisted Leader Management Office (SELMO), he was responsible for the development, interpretation and implementation of ANG SELMO policies and processes; to include coordinating senior leader development opportunities and training for all ANG State/Wing CCMs and 1900 ANG CMSgts. Chief Sundin was also directly responsible to plan, organize, staff, direct, report, and budget for personnel actions pertaining to functional management oversight of 9E and 9G AFSCs. He also communicated daily with the ANGRC Staff, National Guard Bureau General Officer Management Office, Air Force “Chief’s Group” and key DoD senior leader offices regarding ANG Senior Enlisted Leader issues and concerns. Chief Sundin has also participated in Operations NOBLE EAGLE, ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, THREAT SECURITY PACKAGE/PACAF, and State Active Duty missions. Prior to his current position, Chief Sundin was assigned as the Air Enlisted Legislative Liaison, National Guard Bureau, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
