obvious exercise. Another would be the basketball free throw, but with a two handed underarm technique, rather than the usual overarm throw. I’m sure motivated parents will think of lots of games along these lines, once they understand the movement pattern they’re trying to build. ON GRIPS AND SWINGS On a final note, you may have noticed that I don’t talk about ‘split hands’ and ‘hands together’, but rather ‘one shoulder’ and ‘two shoulder’ techniques. I personally think it’s a bit more logical, as when your hands are together you can actually play a wrist swing, or a two shoulder swing, or even a (potentially wrist-damaging) one shoulder swing. Maybe I’m biased because I think about the swing when I’m coaching, but to me the grip is predicated by the swing technique, and not the other way around.
