The Juntos Program

growth, Juntos requires a coordinated and sustainable evaluation infrastructure. The following objectives guide our current work:

Advance technical rigor of evaluation efforts by focusing on cultural relevance and responsiveness.

Improve efficiencies in Juntos evaluation and reporting systems by aligning varying funding priorities as part of instrument development.

Design a sustainable, forward-thinking, multi-phased strategic plan for evaluation.

Create partnerships with practitioners, scholars, evaluators, and strategists to inform the evaluation design and implementation.

Juntos recently brought a group of evaluators and practitioners together to form a Juntos Evaluation Advisory Team that synergistically weaves technical and cultural expertise. The purpose of this group is to build a sustainable, forward-thinking, multi-phased strategic plan for evaluation that best benefits the population we serve. As we look ahead, Juntos knows that evaluation is critical to systems change that improves the quality of education and life for Latinx families. We aspire to create a holistic and balanced Juntos evaluation framework that includes three components: 1. Juntos Fidelity of Implementation Index delineates quantitative and qualitative measurable indicators of the types of systems change that Juntos believes need to occur towards the inclusion of Latinx voices in decision-making. 2. Juntos Formative Evaluation Tools include National Juntos parent, student, and alumni surveys and semi-structured focus group protocols that infuse participant perspectives as part of a cycle of continuous program improvement. The effort aims to offer structure and flexibility for Juntos sites, depending on the unique features of their program implementation, funding structures, and evaluation capacity. 3. Juntos Academic Outcomes Data Collection Protocol can be used by school and district data managers to detect and track inequities and progress in of Latinx students’ educational o utcomes compared with outcomes in other populations. A well-specified outcomes data collection protocol provides a foundation for rigorous and responsive impact evaluation designs using quasi- experimental or experimental approaches like stepped wedge cluster randomized or cross-over study design.

How parents and students are asked to engage with evaluation matters. Juntos has learned that it is essential to offer multiple ways for parents and students to share feedback on their Juntos program experience and their impact stories. Juntos has implemented the following strategies and found them all to be successful:

Parent and student survey instruments are provided in Spanish and English.
