Protecting foliage remains one of the most important principles of sound almond management.
The full story of the 2026 crop has yet to be told. Once harvest is complete and all deliveries have been received, we’ll revisit these trends in greater detail. For now, these early observations offer valuable lessons that can help shape management decisions for the seasons ahead.
Looking Ahead As harvest continues, several themes are beginning to emerge. Navel orangeworm remains the industry’s most significant insect challenge, particularly in pollinizer varieties. Success continues to depend on sanitation, mating disruption, effective materials, proper timing and thorough coverage. Plant bugs continue to cause excessive damage, especially in Independence. At the same time, red blotch and spider mites remind us that protecting tree health after harvest is every bit as important as protecting the crop itself.
