أنت مصور ضوئي جوّي وتحتمائي متمرّس، وكذلك مصور ســينمائي. متــى بــدأت تتعلّــم هــذه الفنــون، ومــا التحديــات التـي تمثلهـا هـذه التقنيـات؟ أنا شخص يتعلم باستمرار مهارات جديدةً، ويبحث عن تحديات جديـدة طـوال الوقـت. فـي الماضـي، كنـت ألتقـط صـورا جوية من طائـرات الهليكوبتـر، ولكـن عندمـا ظهـرت أولى الطائرات المسـيّرة مــن دون طيــار قبــل ثمانــي ســنوات، باشــرت ببــطء شــديد أتعلــم وأتــدرّب علــى كيفيــة تشــغيلها. أتذكــر حيــن كنــت أختبــر طائــرة تجاريـة مـن دون طيـار، كان الطقـس يومهـا عاصفـا جـداً، وكادت المسـيّرة أن تصطـدم بـرأس الممتحـن! لقـد فشـلت بشـكل واضـح، لكــن تلــك التجربــة علمتنــي أن أســتمر فــي المحاولــة والممارســة أكثـر فأكثـر حتـى أتقنت فن تشـغيل المسـيرات فـي ظروف صعبة للغايــة. وهــذا يشــمل الطيــران فــي الضبــاب، أو مــن القــوارب فــي البحــر، حيــث ال يمكــن التنبــؤ بالتداخــل الكهرومغناطيســي فــي عمليـات المسـيرات، والتـي قـد تـؤدي إلـى تعطيـل نظـام المالحـة فيهـا، عبـر حـرف بوصلـة المسـيرة عـن محورهـا. لـم أكـن فـي السـنوات السـابقة أعـرف كيـف أسـبح بشـكل صحيـح، ألنني مصاب برهاب البحر، لكن كان لدي مشروع يتضمن التصوير تحت الماء. بالطبع، لم أستطع رفض المشروع لهذا السبب. لذلك، ذهبـت إلـى المسـبح بمفـردي، وبمسـاعدة المنقـذ الـذي كان يسـجل محاوالتـي علـى هاتفـه، تمكنـت مـن التعلـم فـي غضون أسـبوعين. بعـد ذلـك، خضعـت لـدورة تدريبيـة فـي الغـوص الحـر، ثـم حصلـت علـى رخصـة “بادي” لغوص السـكوبا. في حالة التصوير السينمائي، كان هذا سهال ألنه يهدف إلى إنشاء قصص باستخدام الصور. وبعد أن درست التصوير الوثائقي، كان من السهل إنشاء مقاطع فيديو باستخدام معرفتي.

lies in portraying rapid modernisation, consumerism and globalisation in Gulf countries, and the influence of the contemporary expression of orientalism. You are an experienced underwater and aerial photographer, as well as cinematographer. When did you add these strings to your bow and what challenges do these techniques present? I am a person who is constantly learning new skills and looking for new challenges all the time. In the past, I took aerial images from helicopters, but when the first drones came to the market eight years ago, very slowly I started to learn and train in how to operate drones. I remember that on the day when I was doing my commercial drone exam, the weather that day was very windy, and I almost crashed the drone into the head of the tester! I failed obviously, but that experience taught me to keep pushing and practicing more and more until I mastered the art of operating drones in very challenging conditions. This includes flying in fog, or flying from boats in the sea where electromagnetic interference on drone operations are unpredictable. This can severely disrupt a drone’s navigation system by shifting the drone’s compass out of alignment. In previous years, I did not know how to swim properly as I have thalassophobia, but I had an assignment where one of the components was to film underwater. Obviously, I could not reject the project just because of that one requirement. So, I went to the swimming pool on my own and with the
