“The Amazon River to me represents a living organism that connects people, connects cultures, connects knowledge,” João Campos-Silva, a biologist, conservationist, and National Geographic Explorer who is participating in the Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition, said. “The whole essence of the forest is in the rivers - in the dynamics of the rivers. All the exchange that takes place in the Amazon from gas exchange to cultural exchange, the exchange of knowledge, is moved by the rivers.
