بالمئـة من 80 بالمئـة، ال يُسـتغرب أن تسـتورد اإلمـارات مـا يصـل إلـى المواد الغذائية التي تستهلكها. كما أدت اضطرابات سلسلة التوريد فـي العاميـن الماضييـن إلـى جانـب القضايـا الجيوسياسـية األوسـع نطاقـا إلـى التأكيـد علـى الحاجـة الملحـة للوصـول اآلمـن إلـى الغذاء. مع اقتراب انعقاد المؤتمر الحادي والعشرين لألطراف المشاركة في ، تواصل ” COP28 اتفاقية األمم المتحدة اإلطارية بشأن تغير المناخ “ البـالد قفزاتهـا العمالقـة نحـو تحويـل إنتـاج الغـذاء المحلـي، وذلـك مـن خـالل تمكيـن المزارعيـن المحلييـن، وتحفيـز االسـتثمار وريـادة األعمـال فـي هـذا القطـاع، وتعزيز األسـاليب الزراعيـة المتقدمة. لطالمـا كانـت مهمتنـا كمجلـة ثقافيـة وفنيـة، ليـس فقـط الكتابـة عـن واالحتفـاظ بسـجل لـه، ”ً المشـهد الثقافـي والفنـي “محليـا وخارجيـا ولكــن أيضــاً، واألكثــر أهميــة، التعبيــر عنــه بصريــاً. فــكل عــدد مــن أعدادنــا هــو وقفــة إبداعيّــة نســعى فيهــا جاهديــن أن نُطلــع قراءنــا على مجموعة واسعة من الموضوعات، بناء على تجاربنا الجماعية، واألحداث الجارية، واألفكار المبتكرة التي تشكل أفكارنا عن العالم. بالحديـث عـن المسـاعي اإلبداعيـة، يسـرنا جـدا نشـر مقابلـة وصـور مذهلــة للفنــان الضوئــي والمصــور الســينمائي المقيــم فــي دبــي، فيكتـور روميـرو. تزيـن الصـور المعماريـة الشـهيرة لفيكتـور الغـالف وفواصـل األقسـام الداخليـة. كمـا أننـا فخـورون أيضـا بنشـر مقابلـة مــع ســوني تــان، كبيــر المهندســين المعمارييــن لمشــروع دبــي مــول العمــالق باإلضافــة إلــى مشــاريع بــارزة أخــرى. يشــغل ســوني حاليــا ، و“تيرمينالز هولدينغ/ ” عدة مناصب إدارية في “فنتاستيك ديزاين ، وهي شـركة اسـتثمارية تتخذ من أبوظبي مقرا ” كيرن كونسـالتينغ لهــا، تهــدف إلــى تنميــة صناعــة الطيــران فــي األســواق الناشــئة بمــا .2030 يتماشـى مـع نمـو دولـة اإلمـارات ورؤيـة أبوظبـي فــي الختــام، أتمنــى لكــم بــكل إخــالص أن تســتمتعوا بقــراءة هــذا . شــكرا لكــم، قرّاءنــا األعــزاء، علــى ” العــدد مــن مجلتكــم “شــواطئ دعمكـم المسـتمر ووالئكـم الـذي ال يتزعـزع. نحـن ممتنون لكم جزيل االمتنـان، ويشـرفنا أن نسـتمر فـي تقديـم محتـوى خاصـاً، نضعـه بين أيديكم كل عدد. ونتطلع قُدما إلى تقديم عددنا التالي في منتصف سـبتمبر المقبـل. فحتـى ذلـك الحيـن، لكـم وألحبائكـم أحـر األمانـي. نأمـل لكـم قـراءة ممتعـة، وصيفـا رائعـاً!

Supply chain disruptions in the last couple of years coupled with wider geopolitical issues have only emphasis ed the urgency of having secure access to food. With COP28 on the horizon, the country continues to make giant leaps towards transforming local food production, whether by empowering local farmers, stimulating investment and entrepreneurship in the sector, or promoting advanced agricultural methods. Our mission as a culture and arts magazine has always been, to not only write about the culture and arts scene [occurring locally and abroad] and keep a record of it, but also, and more importantly, to express it visually. Every issue is a creative exchange as we strive to inform our readers about a broad range of topics based on our collective experiences, current events and innovative ideas that are shaping our thoughts of the world. Speaking of creative pursuits, we are excited to include an interview alongside stunning photography from Dubai- based photographer and cinematographer, Victor Romero. Victor’s iconic architectural images grace our cover and section breakers. We are also proud to include an interview with Sonny Tan, Chief Architect for the Dubai Mall mega- project as well as other prominent projects. Currently, he holds multiple directorship roles with Funtastic Design as well as Terminals Holding/Cairn Consulting, the Abu Dhabi-based investment company that aims to grow the aviation industry in emerging markets in line with the growth of UAE and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. Our latest edition of Shawati’ is the perfect companion to keep by your side and slowly savour, it features a wide range of editorial content, covering diverse topics occurring at home and around the globe. In the opening Al Majlis section of our latest edition, we are honoured to have yet another illuminating article from our esteemed columnist, Her Excellency Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo. In Her Excellency’s latest piece titled, “The Knowledge Industry: Sustaining the Power of Thought,” she discusses the fundamental role of culture and arts as a measure of a nation’s progress and the further strengthening of these efforts during the Year of Sustainability through a commitment to continuous learning, training, development, and inspiration. With the Year of Sustainability as the prominent focus in the UAE this year, it will continue to be an important theme throughout every issue of Shawati’. In an article titled “You Can’t Reach Net Zero Without the Community: The Mission to Zero Success Story” great strides and awareness have been made at the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi [EAD], which is responsible for liaison with the general public to create awareness about the importance of the environment. Following the recent announcement to ban Abu Dhabi’s use of single-use plastic bags as part of the overarching Single-Use Plastic Policy of EAD, they launched the dynamic ‘Mission to Zero’ campaign. The ambitious and futuristic target’s aim is to achieve zero consumption of single-use plastics, while also generating zero waste and zero carbon emissions, with zero impact on biodiversity through the ‘Mission to Zero’ public outreach campaign. In another in-depth story, we tackle the significant strides of the food security sector since launching the National Food Security Strategy 2051 back in 2018, the UAE has doubled its efforts towards strengthening the local food system.
