دبي مول قد زودتنا جيدا بفهم ما يفعله اآلخرون في مشـروع المطـار وكيفيـة التكامل معهم إلخـراج أفضل النتائج من تصاميمهم. كان أمــرا جديــدا بالنســبة لنــا ذلــك الوقــت إدارة مشــروع تصميــم وتجهيــز صالــة شــركة االتحــاد للطيران في مطار أبوظبي، حيث شـاركنا في إعادة تعريـف تجربـة مسـتخدمي صالـة الخطـوط الجوية. ال يمكنني قول أكثر من ذلك [بسـبب اتفاقية سـرية المعلومـات] باسـتثناء أن هـذه الصالـة الجديـدة قـد تم تصميمها لتقديم تجربة أكثر اكتماال للمسافرين. هــذا المشــروع فتــح لنــا فرصــا جديــدة مــن نــواح عديـدة، إذ نصمـم حاليـا بعضـا من الصـاالت الحديثة والمسـتقبلية. هذا النمط من الصاالت الجديدة مهم فـي أي مـكان، وليـس بالضـرورة فـي المطـارات. ما هو مثالك المفضل لفن العمارة في اإلمارات؟ يســرّني أنــك طرحــت هــذا الســؤال. يعــود بنــا األمــر إلــى أول شــيء ذكرتــه لــك: أنــا أحــب الفضــاءات. أحـب أن أخلـق فضـاء لـن تنسـاه أبـداً، وأن تتمتّــع بـه علـى المسـتوى الحسّــي، تشـعر بـه حتـى لـو أغمضـت عينيك. وخير مثال على ذلك بالنسبة لي هو مسجد الشـيخ زايـد الكبيـر فـي أبوظبـي. أحـب طريقـة عمل الفضــاءات، أحــب األحجــام واأللــوان واألضــواء. االنطــالق مــن المــكان الــذي ركنــت فيــه ســيارتك، وعندمــا تــرى المبنــى ألول مــرة مــن بعيــد، وحتــى وصولــك إلــى الداخــل، واالســتمتاع بتجربــة أنــك وصلت بالفعل. صياغة متقنة للفضاء. جامع الشيخ زايـد الكبيـر ليـس مجـرد مبنـى، إنـه صـرح معمـاريّ.
with the same typology of building projects, they can be manifested in different ways, through new technologies and new ideas, new ways of doing things. We have to be constantly adapting to change. Have there been other big milestone moments in your career? I thought after Dubai Mall, I would be stuck doing shopping mall after shopping mall, but soon after that, we were appointed to an airport project in Abu Dhabi where we were the design managers overseeing all the fitting-out of the commercial spaces. Having that experience of working with multiple stakeholders in Dubai Mall has equipped us well to understand what everyone else in the Airport Project were doing and how to compliment them to bring out the best for their designs. Something that was also new to us then was project-managing the design and fitting-out of Abu Dhabi airport lounge for Etihad airlines where we participated in the design process of re-defining the Airline lounge users experience I cannot say much more than that [under NDA] except that this new lounge was designed to bring about a more wholesome experience to the travellers. That project has opened up new opportunities for us in many ways to be now currently designing some of the latest and futuristic Airport Lounges. That type of new lounge experience can also happen anywhere, not necessarily just at the airport. What’s your favourite example of architecture in the UAE? I’m glad you asked that question. It goes back to the first thing I told you: I like spaces. I like to create a space that you’ll never forget, and that you experience on a sensory level: even if you close your eyes, you feel it. The best example of that for me is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. I love the way the space works, the volumes, the
