For Barbara Pace, finding the right book for someone has always been about more than locating a title on a shelf.
Along the way, a librarian named Lynn Herrick helped Barbara see that her interests could become something more. "She guided me toward thinking that I could become a librarian," Barbara said. "She showed me the skills she used to help a library run smoothly and taught me how to determine what kinds of books should be in a library based on the needs and interests of its visitors."
It is about the smile that follows.
Barbara has spent much of her life surrounded by books, beginning with a childhood love of reading that quickly grew into something more. She enjoyed sorting and organizing her own books, sharing favorites with friends and helping classmates find information they needed for homework.
Decades later, Barbara thought her days as a librarian were behind her.

During her first tour of Cedarhurst, Barbara shared that she had spent her career as a librarian. The response was immediate: “Good! We need a librarian!”
Barbara began working as a library technician in Germany, where she served military families at an Army library. She later worked in a medical library in Washington before moving to Kentucky, attending library school at the University of Kentucky and continuing her career as a librarian.
Barbara was immediately intrigued.
