A Decade of Community
Ten years can be measured in days and dates. At Cedarhurst of Jacksonville, it’s better measured in relationships, memories and the people who have made the community home. Residents, families, team members and community partners came together Sept. 10 to celebrate Cedarhurst of Jacksonville’s 10th anniversary and a decade of serving families throughout Jacksonville. “Ten years is an incredible milestone, and for our community, it represents so much more than the passage of time,” said Executive Director Stephanie Smith. “It represents a decade of relationships, memories, milestones and the privilege of serving older adults and families throughout Jacksonville.” Among those recognized was resident Jack Wiegand, who celebrated 10 years at Cedarhurst in September. Fellow resident Virginia Keaton, who will reach the same milestone in November, was also recognized as an important part of nearly the community’s entire journey.
The celebration also honored longtime team members Anita McLaughlin and Ginger Kuhn. Anita has served Cedarhurst in several roles during her 10 years, while Ginger has been part of the community since it opened, serving as its salon stylist. Jacksonville Mayor Andy Ezard also helped commemorate the milestone by presenting Cedarhurst with a proclamation. The celebration ended by looking toward the future. A time capsule capturing Cedarhurst of Jacksonville in 2026 will be placed in the community and remain until 2036, when it will be opened as the community celebrates its 20th anniversary. For now, it holds a snapshot of the first 10 years—and the people who made them worth celebrating.
