December 2021 Advisor

When I graduated from high school, I was pretty lean and mean at only 145 lbs. Needless to say — like most of us — I’ve put on some weight since those long gone days. While I know I’ll never be that thin again, my 2022 resolution is to get my weight and eating habits back on track. As a society, we tend to overeat, and a lot of the food we consume isn’t very nutritious. For the past several months, I’ve been practicing fasting one day per week, and I’ve made great progress so far. I started out at 210 lbs and have recently hit 190 lbs. Under my current program, I don’t eat at all on Mondays, and I drink only water. My wife, who sometimes joins me in fasting on Mondays, got shaky the first few times she tried it, but I’m relatively unaffected. We have to remember that humans didn’t always have a grocery store to purchase food when we needed it — it was normal for our ancestors to not have 24/7 access to food. We can go without for a while, and both religious and secular fasting have been practiced for centuries. I’m also engaging in intermittent fasting, sometimes called time- restricted eating. Tuesday through Friday, I only eat between the hours of noon and 7 p.m. The idea is to give your digestive system a time to rest. During the time when you’re not consuming calories, your insulin levels fall lower, which forces your body to burn body fat as an energy source. On the weekends, I relax a bit and eat between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. (still avoiding those late night snacks). My exercise regime is still a work in progress. As many of you know, it’s hard to make the time. I get to work early, and when I finally get home, I’m beat. But I like the elliptical and rowing machine, so I hope to get back to it soon. If I set a goal too unrealistic or intense, I know I’ll give it up, so I’m trying to make a reasonable commitment that I can actually meet. A NEW LEAF MY GOALS FOR 2022 CellinoLaw.com

Of course, I’ve made the same resolution in years past. I guess the drive wasn’t there, but I plan to be "all in" this time around and continue building on the success of my fasting routine. My resolution is to get my weight stable in the low 180s and religiously exercise two days a week for the next 12 months. It’s a bit of a risk sharing that with so many people, but it will help to hold me accountable! It’s been a busy year, and I’m particularly proud that we were able to close it out with the acquisition of the Mrs. Seymour H. Knox House. Seymour Knox was one of the founders of Woolworth’s, and after his death in 1915, his widow built a 48,000-square-foot mansion. In October, we relocated our offices to this building, and we plan to restore the house to its original glory. Our new office is close to downtown and has off-street parking, and we couldn’t be more excited to take on stewardship of this historic property. I hope that 2021 has blessed you with many good things and that 2022 will be even better. I wish you the best of luck with your own New Year’s resolutions — as well as a very happy new year!

Many Americans spend the holidays alone every year, and the pandemic has only made it more difficult for people to see their loved ones, as travel has become more restricted and strenuous. If you’re one of these people who are spending their first holiday season alone this year, here are a few strategies you can try to make the situation a little easier. Don’t hold yourself to the usual standards. One of the best things about spending the holidays alone is that you can do things your way. You don’t have to worry about meeting everyone else’s standards. Instead, you only have to make yourself happy. Simply telling yourself that you are not going to have the usual holiday environment can slightly help, but redefining what the holiday means to you can remove a huge weight. Trying new things or looking toward the future are great ways to reduce the stress of spending the holidays alone. Keeping up with old traditions may remind you of what you’re missing out on, so it can greatly help to create your own traditions. Plan ahead. If you know in advance that you’re going to be spending the holidays alone, planning ahead can prevent negative feelings. While being spontaneous can sometimes keep things fresh, it could leave you with a feeling of hopelessness about what to do next. There’s no need for your list to be extensive or highly detailed, but even just planning to watch a movie or cook some of your favorite dishes can give you something to look forward to. Enjoying the Best of Both Worlds Meet Senior Trial Attorney Michael Napolitano!

Senior trial attorney Michael Napolitano was first introduced to the legal field by his grandfather, who was a practicing attorney for over 40 years. Since legal work was less specialized then, his grandfather was a general practitioner who took all kinds of cases. It gave Michael a broader understanding of the law at a relatively young age. “I watched the way he worked with his clients,” he says, “and I think that influenced me to go to law school.”

While studying, Michael interned at Ross Cellino’s previous law firm, where he loved the environment. “You get to be in a courtroom, but you also get to sit with your clients, and many attorneys don’t get to do both,” he explains. “There are very few aspects of law where you can be in the courtroom on a daily basis.” His work at Cellino Law allows him to do just that while also giving him time to connect with his clients. That connection is where Michael finds the most satisfaction. “The best part of my job is building relationships with my clients,” he says. “I’m in a position to give them advice on something I specialize in, knowing I can help them tremendously and get them the compensation they deserve.” When he’s not working, Michael loves spending time with his wife, Julie, and their golden retriever, Capri. They enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities, and Michael is a certified scuba diver. “I take the time to go scuba diving whenever I can,” he says. For that reason and more, he also enjoys traveling whenever he has the opportunity. Michael has now been practicing law for four years and credits his success, in part, to the support and mentorship he’s received at Cellino Law. “I’ve been fortunate to work with a great group of attorneys,” Michael says. “From day one, they’ve helped me hone my skills and taught me how to better advocate for my clients.”

Take care of yourself. Just because you’re not seeing people during the holidays does not mean you should forgo your basic needs. Stick to your regular hygiene habits and do not let them get away from you. The same goes for eating and sleeping. Staying clean, well-fed, and well-rested goes a long way toward improving your happiness.

J&J PLACES TALC-BASED LIABILITIES INTO BANKRUPTCY In October 2021, Johnson & Johnson took action to place tens of thousands of legal claims into bankruptcy, seeking to offload and limit liability for almost 38,000 women and their families. This marks a new stage in the legal battle, in which thousands of ovarian cancer and mesothelioma sufferers have alleged that J&J’s baby powder and other talc-based products were contaminated with asbestos — a claim which the company denies. In the “Texas two-step” process, Johnson & Johnson first created a new subsidiary company called LTL Management LLC, which they saddled with all talcum powder liability. LTL Management then filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S Bankruptcy Court in Charlotte, North Carolina. Neither Johnson & Johnson nor its subsidiaries, Aveeno or Neutrogena, were part of the bankruptcy filings. Johnson & Johnson holds a market value of over $400 billion and hopes the prosecution of all talc cases against it will be halted while LTL — which has far more limited value than Johnson & Johnson — navigates through bankruptcy proceedings. Women with ovarian cancer and mesothelioma have been litigating against Johnson & Johnson in courts across the United States for many years; some cases even reached the United States Supreme Court. J&J has spent nearly $1 billion defending talcum powder cases and has generally resisted settlement. The bankruptcy move has sparked outrage among lawmakers and consumer advocates across the country. It would allow J&J to safeguard its billions of dollars and limit potential talcum powder injury recoveries only to the value of the new subsidiary company.

“We will be opposing J&J’s attempt to continue delaying compensation to the mothers, wives, and daughters whose trust in Johnson & Johnson’s reputation and claims of purity were misguided. Our battle, along with our clients, against corporate greed will be fought as hard as they have battled to survive this terrible disease,” says Brian A. Goldstein of Cellino Law. If you or a loved one have been affected by J&J’s negligence, don’t hesitate to reach out to Cellino Law for help. NO MONKEYING AROUND Helping Hands Monkey Helpers for the Win

You’ve heard of service dogs, but what about service monkeys? For many years now, capuchin monkeys have been lending helping hands to people with disabilities! Helping Hands Monkey Helpers, located at Monkey College in Boston, Massachusetts, is a nonprofit organization designed to help people with disabilities and mobility issues, such as quadriplegia, by pairing them with a monkey service animal. These simian helpers are specifically trained to help with daily tasks while providing companionship, happiness, and a renewed sense of purpose that many struggle with when navigating an injury or disability. When monkeys graduate, they will have developed the ability to navigate major household appliances and electronics as well as basic items within the home. They can even retrieve a canned beverage from the refrigerator, open it, and put a straw in it! A service monkey can also assist with retrieving things that are dropped or out of reach, turning pages in a book, scratching an itch, pushing buttons on electronic devices, and performing other menial tasks within the home.

Each human applicant and the capuchin monkeys undergo a pairing process to find the best fit for placement.

A social worker and placement specialist work together to sift

through applications and determine which monkeys will be the right choice for the applicants based on lifestyle preferences and the tasks that will be most helpful to the person with disabilities. Plus, Helping Hands Monkey Helpers ensures that the monkeys are completely free of charge to the recipients!

The human-animal bond created along the journey after placement is absolutely beautiful. Helping Hands Monkey Helpers brings love, companionship, and laughter to many who are fortunate enough to work with the organization. These monkeys are the best, hands down. Thank you, monkeys, for going to monkey college and thank you for your service to mankind!
