OUR PROJECTS

The LSE first new building for more than 40 years, The Saw Swee Hock Student Centre has received praise from students, staff and architecture critics and has won many awards ( including being shortlisted for the RIBA Sterling Prize ) since its opening in 2014. Our Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners designed Centre building at £ 125m, received an RIBA Award and a Civic Trust Award following its completion in 2019. The Marshall Building is a £ 145m new building of 18,000m2 of academic and enterprise space, designed by Grafton Architects on the corner of Lincoln ’ s Inn Field in a conservation area. Opened in 2022, the build - ing has been widely acclaimed, gaining awards such as the RIBA West London Regional Award, the New London Architecture Award in Education, and an International Architecture Award.

LSE ESTATES DIVISION AND CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT The Estates Division is responsible for development and imple - mentation of the LSEs Estates strategy, providing world class buildings and facilities for teaching, learning and research. The Estates Division are committed to creating a higher quality built environment commensurate with LSEs academic stand - ing. Strategic projects are developed and delivered by the Cap - ital Development team, responsible for the planning and imple - mentation of major capital projects, long term maintenance and carbon management in progress at the School.

The capital plan has various major projects up to 2030 and beyond:

The Firoz Lalji Global Hub A deep retrofit of a 1950s building in Lincoln ’ s Inn Fields, led by David Chipperfield Architects, will deliver world-class teaching, research, and digital spaces. Targeting Passivhaus, BREEAM Outstanding, and WELL Platinum, it will be the UK ’ s largest Passivhaus retrofit when completed in 2028. 61 Aldwych Redevelopment Acquired in 2025, this historic building is being transformed into a flagship academic hub by Feix & Merlin and Alison Brooks Architects. A new “ front door ” to the LSE. Bankside House Redevelopment LSE ’ s largest student residence is being reimagined into three striking towers providing nearly 2,000 rooms. Designed by Carmody Groarke and Sheppard Robson, the scheme will create a vibrant student community hub.
