MOVING COSTS EVERYONE

Panel Discussions (cont.) David to sin against Israel and send ing Joab to number them. The same is true in other portions of Scripture. We read of God hardening Pharoah’s heart, when actually it was a case of the sovereign Lord permitting his heart to be hardened. Q. Boise, Idaho — “How can people eat leavened bread at the communion serv ice when Scripture clearly states that there was no leaven in connection with the Passover or the Lard’s Supper?” A. Actually the Passover feast and the Lord’s Supper are not the same. The latter was instituted immediately fol lowing the last Passover. Our Lord Jesus took bread, blessed it, brake it, and gave it to His disciples, and said, “Take eat, this is my body.” The Pass- over food undoubtedly was celebrated with unleavened bread. Put at the Lord’s Supper nothing is said about whether the bread should be leavened or unleavened bread. No command ment is ever given on this subject. Throughout the Scriptures leaven has to do with evil. Therefore, it is gen erally supposed that unleavened bread is more typical of the body of Christ. Whether the bread is leavened or un leavened is not the important thing. That which is vital is the condition of the partaker’s heart; whether he is right before God. May we be more concerned with feasting daily upon the Bread of Life, which is our Lord Jesus Christ, so that others may taste of Him and see that the Lord is good. Q. Tacoma, Washington — “What is meant by the age of accountability, and what is that age?” A. People have Tasked this question for a long time. Some have considered it to be between eleven and twelve years of age. Many who work with children, however, believe that little ones ac tually come to the age of accountability long before this. The event refers to that period of time in a child’s life when he becomes aware of his sinful ness and need of the Saviour; when he must be held responsible for his own

Thank you for your prayer ful help in this, as well as in our other ministries for the Lord Jesus Christ.

acts, deeds and thoughts, and claim the blood of Jesus Christ as covering. Some children have accepted Christ at four or five and have a full realization of what sin is. There is no set age given. When a child reaches this point of sin- consciousness, that, to him, is the age of accountability. W.e need not pressure little children, but also we must not shirk our God-given responsibilties and privileges of leading them in the “paths of righteousness.” A saintly grandmother was asked when she thought the proper time was to start influencing a child for the cause of Christ. She responded by right ly declaring, “I began influencing my children the moment I, myself, gave my own heart and life to the Saviour!” That is Why we are held accountable first to give ourselves to Christ that we in turn might lead these little ones to a saving knowledge of the Lord.
