Companies with their eye on copper and aluminum project 5,000 new jobs within close proximity to St David Springs Copper powers the electric future. Aluminum makes it efficient and scalable. Without both metals, the global transition to cleaner energy, modern infrastructure, and advanced technology would slow dramatically. • Blue Project is a massive data center complex planned for the Tucson area by Beale Infrastructure, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a potential end-user. The campus of data centers will be on a 290-acre county-owned site near the Pima County Fairgrounds. Its proposed advanced closed loop air cooling will reduce water impact, and it is aiming for a $3.6B investment with 180+ jobs. • Hermosa Project by South 32 is a major new mine near Kino Springs, Arizona (near Nogales). This large-scale zinc, manganese, and silver mine in the Patagonia Mountains will produce minerals critical for the US energy supply. It projects over 800 direct long-term jobs and with an estimated $2 billion investment. • Aluminum Dynamics (a division of Steel Dynamics) is building a large aluminum recycling plant in Benson, AZ, to process scrap into ingots for its Mississippi mill. It is currently under construction for the 175,000 sq ft facility on 200 acres with a project $200m investment and over 90 high paying jobs. • Johnson Camp Mine , located near Dragoon and owned by Gunnison Copper and utilizes innovative Nuton technology for extracting copper from existing ore piles (historic mine started in the 1881), with production ramping up to deliver American-made copper cathodes. The project has been awarded $13.9 million in federal 48C tax credits for clean energy manufacturing and is expected to create hundreds of local jobs as it expands toward the end of the decade. • Hudbay Minerals has secured the necessary private land and permits for Phase I of its Copper World project located in the Santa Rita mountain, south of Tucson, allowing them to proceed with mining operations entirely on their own property. It projects a $1.7B investment with over 3000 jobs.
