Nimmo began working as an interior designer, and soon he was attracting big-name clients, such as singer-songwriter Randy Newman. It was Newman’s fireplace that sparked Nimmo’s product line. When Nimmo couldn’t find the right screen for Newman’s odd-shaped fireplace, Nimmo decided to create his own. But a happy accident led to the fire screen being made in the wrong size. A showroom in West Hollywood offered to carry the extra screen — it sold instantly off the floor. The showroom wanted more, and the Philip Nimmo line quickly grew to include representation at multiple showrooms across the country. Soon, Nimmo was designing other fire screens and iron tools, and he began to expand his designs into other forms: sofas, cabinets, tables, lighting. The full line was born.
Today, a staple in Nimmo’s furniture line is the Newman Sofa , originally custom- designed for the Newman household.
It comes in all wood, with iron accents, as a sectional and as a chair.
