Towards the end of my engineering ca - reer, my dad told me to learn about the Holocaust. This quest turned into multi - ple trips to Poland and my first book, The Horse Adjutant . The book is about Leon Schagrin, a survivor of Auschwitz. Leon is 96 as of this writing, and his memory is still sharp. This book taught me how to write a book and prepare the layout for publish - ing. These tools have become invaluable to me.

I did. I built the call center from scratch, writing software and wiring switches. In doing so, I earned a patent in software engineering, discovering a critical process in modern call centers. Today, this is the de facto standard of the industry. By the time we sold the company, I had a team of 35 engineers reporting to me. And at night and on weekends, I made art. By then, my wife and I also had four kids. They all turned out to be artists: three musicians and one comic-book artist. Our company became highly respected in the industry.
