and said: “Do you see that the wheat grows as well without the fence as within?” » This man saw no need to be “fenced” by church rules, prin ciples, or customs. Later the two men walked down the same road together again. The churchgoer pointed to the wheat out side the fence along the roadside. By now it had been grazed off by stray cattle. Within the fence the wheat was more beautiful than ever. The nonchurchgoer saw the lesson. ?' JANUARY 28,. 1945 Y O U T H SER V E S !
a girl usually has attained full development, while boys generally reach maturity by the time they are twenty-five. When the growing years have passed, one becomes aware of the constant struggle to maintain equilibrium. “There must be steady productioh of heat and energy; re? pairs are always needed for failing organs, while there is ever present danger from attacks by virulent en emies of various kinds. We begin to die as soon as we are born." By the time we reach middle age there are definite reminders that the sands of time are running out. It takes longer for repairs. We cannot carry the loads that we once did. Then, slowly but surely, the body machine wears out; the years will not be denied their toll. To young people, these are morbid thoughts. Old age is a long way off. But, In the light of eternity, is it? In thinking over this topic, “Youth Serves!? may our minds be ever conscious of the proper emphasis— "Youth Serves.” There is the familiar illustration of the two candles, originally the same' length, but . one over half burned away. They are both candles—true— and a candle is a candle, mjt which is* the more valuable? The answer is obvious. The Apostle Paul exhorts us: “Ye are bought with a price: there fore glorify God in your body” (1 Cor. 6:20). Then he shows us how there is no more reasonable way to glorify God than through service. Listen to the Spirit’s pleading in Romans 12:1, 2: “I beseech you there-( fore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living. sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but he ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” L YOUTH SERVES! HOW? Men are not taken- into the army, and people are not hired for jobs, without passing some sort of exami nation or being able to comply witlj certain prerequisites. Neither can the youth of today serve the Lord Jesus Christ unless they have had certain experiences which qualify them fdr service. We find these qualifications in Isaiah 6:8 and its context, 1. If we see God, we shall see our Sin (Isa. 6:5). The thought of God and His holiness, as this realization streams in upon the soul, will be like a searchlight at sea, revealing the dark doings of the enemy. For Those Who Have Topics
