Healthy: Spring/Summer 2025

Prerequisite Test : To be eligible to participate in the Lifeguarding Recertification Course, each participant must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification. Proof of current certification must be emailed to Aquatic Operations Coordinator no later than one week prior to the first day of class. Failure to provide proof of current certification by this date will result in forfeiture of class fees. All participants will be confirmed or tested on the following prerequisite items at the beginning of class: 1. Jump in the water from the side, totally submerge, recover to the surface and swim 150 yards. After swimming 150 yards, maintain position at the water’s surface without support for 2 minutes by treading using only your legs (arms must be tucked under armpits and head must remain above the water’s surface). After maintaining a position at the water’s surface for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards. While swimming, you must swim continuously, keeping your face in the water and demonstrating good breath control. You may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed for this part of the pre-requisites. 2. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface-dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps. This specific test must be completed in its entirety within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Note: When returning to the starting point, each participant must be able to hold the 10-pound object with both hands, placing it on his or her chest, and keeping his or her face above water. Each participant must exit the water using his or her own strength (participants may NOT use goggles during this skill). Certification Requirements: To receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification all participants must: 1. Submit proof of current lifeguarding certification no later than one week prior to the first day of class by emailing a copy to Aquatic Operations Coordinator. 2. Pass all course prerequisites. 3. Attend class session in its entirety. 4. Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities. 5. Demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios. 6. Correctly answer 80% of the questions on the final written exams. Failure to meet the course prerequisites, attend all classes in their entirety, demonstrate competency in skills, or fail the written tests will result in forfeiture of class fees and certification will not be granted. If you have any questions prior to class, please contact Jamie DeCarlo at 614.410.4558 or jdecarlo@dublin.oh.us. By registering for this course, you have reviewed the policies and acknowledge acceptance of these terms.
