Indexable type drill with exchangeable drill head, which has a radial serration design, for high precision and strength. An exchangeable drill head provides a new cutting edge, higher productivity and cost efciency with easy tool management. Regrinding allowance of 0.059” to 0.118” ( 1.5mm to 3mm ) makes further tool cost reductions possible. * Contact local Sumitomo Salesmen for inquiry

(1) Dedicated coating and substrate (2) With regrinding not required, the tool can be used until maximum wear occurs.
Shorter tool change time! MTL has double the tool life of brazed drills!
For regrinding purposes, brazed drills are only used for 50-70% of their actual tool life potential. SEC-MultiDrill MTL reaches 100%!

Ŷ Recommended drilling method for 12D: Use a collet, hydro chuck or milling chuck to hold the 12D drill body (tapered collet chuck cannot be used)
(1) Drill a guide hole with SMDH żżż M (3D holder) + MTL (head) Ɣ Use a 3D drill body and a drill head with the same diameter as the 12D (same cat. no.) when drilling the guide hole.
(3) Increase spindle speed until the set spindle speed is reached, then start drilling
*On some NC machines, the feed command may be activated before the set spindle speed is reached, so it is recommended to enter a dwell sequence before the feed command.
H = Drill diameter × 1 to 1.5 times the depth
Increase rotation speed
H
(2) Feed the SMDH żżż -12D (12D holder) + MTL Type (head) through the guide hole at a low spindle speed Ɣ Spindle speed: 500 RPM Ɣ Feed rate: 39.37 IPM to 78.74 IPM
(4) After drilling, rotation speed is reduced and the drill is retracted from the work material Ɣ Spindle speed: 500 RPM Ɣ Feed rate: 39.37 IPM to 78.74 IPM
*If the drill is inserted into the guide hole at the set cutting speed, peripheral run-out may cause damage to the drill's peripheral edges.
*Retracting a drill from the work material at a high spindle speed, is dangerous as doing so may result in breakage due to runout.
Change rotation speed to 500 RPM
Stop 0.040” away from the guide hole depth
