The POINT Community Development Corporation

The POINT adjusted our original plans to include more opportunities for the community to obtain some much-needed support, particularly via our food-related activities.

For the summer and fall months of 2020, they worked with Bascom Catering,Mrs. Pat's Food Ministry, their grant fundedBe a Buddy Stewards, and their Hunts Point Community Network to engage directly with at least 150 individuals and 30 volunteers, as well as thousands of others who met live on Instagram at Blank Plate Summer Food Demos. The POINT CDC continued to o ff er much needed food and cultural programming for their most vulnerable populations. Their BPEM e ff orts were transferred to the

Be a Buddy Program (BaB), and they coordinated 20 weeks of food giveaways at their main site in collaboration with Nos Quedamos. Their BaB volunteers o ff ered fresh produce, bread, fruit, and other items to 75 families and individuals from Their BaB network. Their final food box giveaway culminated in their Baldor Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway event on November 20, where 800 families received a free turkey and holiday meal box for up to 4 people.

The Salvation Army The Salvation Army – Manhattan Citadel’s program has directly impacted the many at-risk children being served through the after- school program. They are committed to helping the children in the East Harlem community by providing support and services that will help lead them to a bright and successful future. The students greatly benefited from the purchase of 10 iPads and supplies provided to them by the organization. These resources, and exposure to

technology, help keep the children engaged. New school supplies and interactive learning materials that were purchased will continue to enhance their experience and foster a love of learning. Manhattan Citadel has also been able to maintain other programming critical to the East Harlem community. East HarlemHoops, which has continued to thrive and reach the community through its basketball outreach programming, has been an excellent tool to keep the students engaged.
