Specification Representative Kelly Turner Words Brett Winchester Photography Tim Allen

By engaging with EGGER materials, Individual Design and Construction has provided a modern sustainable interior to Melbourne’s Centre for Adult Education (CAE). With light, space and inspired elements, the commercial and education centre becomes a flexible learning space that encourages collaboration between students and teachers.

As a place for collaborative learning, the centre has been filled with light and space through the use of EGGER prod- ucts. EGGER Flammex Mainau Birch has been utilised throughout, providing a functional feature that is both sustainable and fire-resistant – while adding to the strik- ing aesthetic of the interior. A cost-effective alternative to other Group 1 fire rated materials, EGGER Flammex certi- fies sustainability credentials alongside its fire-resistant features, which enhance the spaces it is employed within. Emphasising flexibility, the contemporary learning centre is inspired by the Melbourne CBD. Additional ref- erences of connectivity, transformation and opportunity have also been imparted with interior choices. First seen on the walls around CAE, dark lines are inspired by the surrounding streets and provide a recognition of the land the building sits upon. After stepping inside, a warm and welcoming atmosphere has been imparted with light tones and a colour palette to convey a mature experience for the CAE students. Allowing adults to feel comfortable and learn freely, the combination of light, green life and décor choices within a modern context help to bring forth a flexible and engaging learning space.

By Specifying Responsibly the negative carbon foot- print EGGER Flammex decorative panels in Mainau Birch for walls and ceilings, Individual Design and Construc- tion has ensured compliance with a Group 1 Fire-Rating. Tested in Australia and satisfying the requirements of the National Construction Code 2019, EGGER Flammex is well suited to schools, hospitals, hotels, shops and other public spaces. With additional advantages of low flammability, low smoke generation and no flaming droplets, as well as being resistant to wear, impact and scratching, the Flam- mex panels are able to withstand high-impact areas such as CAE. Moreover, Flammex has an antimicrobial surface property that adheres to international and national stan- dards. Through its flat grain and uniform colour, the Mainau Birch delivers a natural warmth to the centre. Providing the students and staff at the centre with an inspiring space to work and learn, Individual Design and Construction employs EGGER Flammex in Mainau Birch to embrace light and warmth while also encouraging growth, collaboration and knowledge for years to come.
