Disney and Mickey Mouse are more than just brands — they are pure magic and an integral part of my life and the lives of my family. The animated classics, the thrill of theme park adventures, and the timeless tales of characters like Mickey Mouse have left a mark on my heart, and on Nov. 18, we celebrate Mickey Mouse Day! Disney and Mickey Mouse remind me that the magic lives on no matter how old we grow. Through visiting Disneyland or watching one of my favorite classic Disney movies, I feel the power of imagination and the joy of sharing those moments with my children and family. My love for Disney began long before I had kids of my own. Back in my college days in Santa Clara, I eagerly anticipated my summer breaks, not just for relief from the studies and the hustle and bustle of the school year but for a chance to return to the enchanting world of Disney. You see, during my freshman and sophomore years of high school, I had the incredible opportunity to work at Disneyland as a skipper on the Jungle Cruise ride. Being a skipper was no ordinary job — it was a ticket to adventure and storytelling. I still vividly remember the eight-minute spiel I had to deliver to our guests as we embarked on our jungle expedition. To this day, I can recite it word for word, complete with the jokes and puns that made the trip unforgettable. Just ask me if you’d like to hear it!

pass to the magic. My aunt also had her own magical journey within the park. She worked on Storybook Land and helped to bring fairy tales to life for countless visitors. Her husband had an even more significant role in the Disney family. He served as the president of Disney International, a role that involved overseeing the opening of Disney parks in Tokyo and Paris. His dedication to spreading Disney magic worldwide was nothing short of awe inspiring. With such a rich family history in Disney, it’s no surprise my own children, Finn and Harlow, love Mickey Mouse and his friends, sharing Disney stories, watching its incredible movies, and visiting Disneyland; these have become cherished traditions in our family. Every time I watch my kids’ faces light up with excitement when they see Mickey on screen or in real life, I’m reminded of the timeless awe and wonder Disney will forever weave into my life.

Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year? Here’s an easy and affordable way to wow your guests: Turn a pumpkin into a centerpiece in just four steps! 1. CHOOSE A VASE . Look for one with a flared top and narrower base that can hold the ideal size of floral arrangement for your table. 2. PURCHASE A PUMPKIN. Make sure the pumpkin is roughly the same height as your vase or a little bit taller. 3. CUT A HOLE IN THE TOP OF YOUR PUMPKIN AND HOLLOW OUT THE INSIDE. The hole should be big enough for the thickest part of our vase to fit through. After hollowing, drop the vase inside. Its rim should line up with the hole you carved. 4. FILL THE VASE WITH FALL FOLIAGE . You can gather leafy branches, twigs, pine boughs, and pine cones outside or purchase fake ones! Stick to a fall color scheme of browns, reds, oranges, and yellows, or find items that match your table linens. Have fun and be creative!

WELCOMING HEROES TO OUR THANKSGIVING TABLE Thanksgiving is always a cherished time in the Barnett household. We love being together as a family, cooking and enjoying comforting and delicious food, and creating new memories. A few years ago, our Turkey Day looked a bit different in the best way possible. Our home is nestled near Camp Pendleton, a prominent military base where brave men and women dedicate their lives to serving our nation. Their sacrifice often means spending holidays far away from their homes and families. So, on Thanksgiving, we had the privilege of hosting two Marines for a holiday meal. It was a heartwarming experience that transcended the confines of our dining room. These young Marines became a part of our extended family for the day. As we shared stories, laughter, and a bountiful and hearty feast, we were reminded of the profound gratitude we owe to those who protect our freedom and dedicate their lives to serving our country. Finn and Harlow (my kids) learned invaluable lessons that Thanksgiving in gratitude and patriotism. They saw firsthand the sacrifices made by servicemen and women, and this encounter ignited their curiosity about the military, prompting discussions about honor, duty, and the importance of showing appreciation to those who serve. Veterans Day, which falls close to Thanksgiving, adds another layer of significance to this time of year. It’s a day to honor all who serve or have served in times of peace and war. Hosting these two men was a fantastic way to spend this special holiday, and the experience will forever go down in the books as one of our best Thanksgivings.
TASTY APPLE PIE
Ingredients
• 2 9-inch unbaked pie crusts • 6 cups thinly sliced peeled apples • 1 tsp cinnamon
• 3/4 cup granulated sugar • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour • 2 tbsp butter
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 425 F. 2. Place 1 pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate. 3. In a large bowl, combine apples, cinnamon, sugar, and flour. 4. Spoon mixture into pastry-lined pie plate and dot with butter. 5. Cut remaining crust into 1/2-inch-wide strips, then arrange strips in a lattice design over top of pie. 6. Trim, seal, and flute edges. 7. Bake for 35 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. LAUGH LAWS

Whether it’s your boisterous toddler or rowdy pup, a perfect pile of autumn leaves might be too good to resist! You probably remember the days when you also jumped into a crunchy orange leaf pile without a second thought. But why do humans and dogs love jumping into huge piles of leaves? THE SCIENCE BEHIND WHY DOGS AND HUMANS CAN'T RESIST LEAF PILES
Instinct to Dig Digging is a dog’s favorite pastime that dates back to their wolf ancestors. Just as natural as sniffing and barking, digging is an ingrained behavior for dogs, and they want to follow their instincts the moment they see a leaf pile. Whether they’re digging in to rest in the cool leaves or demolishing the pile entirely, your dog is just doing what dogs have always done. Irresistible Seasonal Scents Our sense of smell doesn’t even come close to dogs’ incredible scent skills. While we have 5 million scent receptors, dogs have anywhere between 125–300 million! This means they can smell countless other scents we can’t, and autumn may bring some exciting aromas your dog hasn’t experienced in a while. The result? They’ll dive right into a leaf pile and get sniffing! Marking Territory Another scent factor could be your dog wanting to claim a particular leaf pile. We already know dogs use their scents to mark territory, and rolling in a beloved pile of leaves is a way to infuse their scent. After diving head first into some leaves, they leave their scent behind so other animals can smell them and know that the leaf pile has already been claimed!
The main (and most obvious answer) is because it’s fun! For kids, dogs, and even some adults, jumping and rolling around in the fall leaves is a satisfying form of play that
releases energy. While this may be the simple reason for humans, there are a few more reasons your canine companion can’t resist a tower of leaves.
Whatever the case, jumping into a pile of leaves is completely normal — and fun! — for both humans and dogs.
