Message from the Executive Director

2024 provided us a significant milestone to celebrate our accomplishments in providing vision services to Georgians in need. We had a wonderful year, celebrating our 75th anniversary of our founding in 1949. If you attended our 75th Anniversary Founders’ Day Ball, the 2024 Evening in the End Zone, “A Night of Spectacles”, you had a chance to participate in the celebration. This impact report depicts our timeline of service over 75 years. Our end-of- year appeal for support is to continue the momentum of high-quality care which began in 1949. Throughout all our services, we seek to increase the numbers of patients served. Your support is essential for us to grow and serve the one-third of the state that does not have access to quality vision care. Transforming Vision Care for Children in Atlanta Public Schools

Tele-optometry Committed Partners Bring Transformative Vision Care to Rural Georgia

By the Numbers

Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc. is grateful for the partnership between Kia, Atlanta Public Schools, Lions Clubs of Georgia, and the Peach Bowl. Since the beginning of 2023, Kia has generously funded a program for Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation to provide vision screenings, eye exams and glasses for students in select Title 1 Atlanta Public Schools (APS). During the school year, GLLF staff, along with Georgia Lions Club volunteers performed vision screenings. If a student was referred for further treatment, a licensed optometrist performed an eye exam and if needed, the student received a free pair of glasses, fabricated in our Chamblee optical lab. All eligible students in this initiative who needed glasses received them free of any charge, thanks to Kia. • “My students have received their eyeglasses, and they can’t stop smiling and repeating, ‘I can see! I can see!’ It’s priceless! I’m in tears right now just as a couple other students that saw the students receiving their eyeglasses, and they began crying and saying that they

Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc. is very fortunate to have committed partners, such as The Mercy Ministries and the Lyon Lions Club of Lyons, GA, who enable us to bring more vision services to the residents of Toombs and Appling Counties, through our successful tele-optometry program starting in January 2023. We routinely treat 10-15 patients per visit with our tele-optometry team who coordinate visits with the staffs of The Mercy Ministry Clinics in Lyons and Graham, Georgia, and volunteers from the local Lions Club to further assist patients. To demonstrate further support, the Lyons Lions Club earlier this year, donated $5,000 towards a $112K Lions Club International Fund grant to help GLLF further expand its tele-optometry capabilities across the state of Georgia. With new tele-optometry equipment to outfit a second van/team, GLLF will treat more underserved patients in 2025. Clint Hutcheson, Executive Director of The Mercy Ministries, shared a perspective that might be echoed by other Federally Qualified Health Centers and Clinic partners in southern Georgia. Without GLLF bringing needed tele-optometry services, The Mercy Ministries Clinic could not provide vision care to its patients. . .It’s that important to us. •

Recycling by the Numbers

Fiscal Year July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024

164,527 used eyeglasses processed 54,223 glasses sent to overseas missions to 14 developing countries 1,800 ( 65% of hours represented by Lions of Georgia led by Snellville Lions) volunteer hours logged 246 helped to broaden our mission Volunteers

As Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation celebrates its 75th year, the vision clinic and optical lab at the Harrell Clinic in Chamblee have been upgraded with the latest state-of-the-art vision equipment to help raise the standard of care and to better serve the exponential demand for services.

Through a $100,000 grant, this upgrade was made possible by District18-I/Chinese American Lions Club of Atlanta and

Lions Clubs International Foundation. The grant allowed us to recruit more volunteer and contracted optometrists and ophthalmologists while improving the quality of our patient care. Warren, who visited our clinic in April, provides just one example of the impact of our enhanced capabilities. Our optometric technician recorded a very high eye (intraocular) pressure reading using our new tonometer. With the additional benefit of a full retinal scan and a thorough medical history, Dr. Jeanne Perrine diagnosed Warren’s condition as glaucoma, a side effect of his cancer treatment medication. Dr. Perrine immediately provided prescription eye drops to bring down the ocular pressure,

which if left untreated, would have resulted in permanent vision loss. Warren continues with his glaucoma treatment, which has stabilized his vision. Next up for Warren is cataract surgery. He is extremely happy with the positive experience with Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, which is indicative of the kind of care our patients receive daily. •

Coming Soon to a Location Near You Thanks to our new partner, Veritiv Corporation, 1,000 beautifully branded recycling containers will be provided to Georgia Lions throughout Georgia. This partnership with Veritiv in support of our dedicated volunteers and donated eyewear will amplify our life-changing missions abroad. The Ken Massingale Recycling Center at Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is one of the largest of its kind in the U.S. Recycled eyeglasses are processed and sent out on mission trips in foreign countries. The Center operates entirely on the efforts of volunteers. • For more information on volunteering or collection inquiries, visit lionslighthouse.org

I was very satisfied with my eye examination at the Harrell Clinic. . .I immediately received eye drops to treat my glaucoma and I was able to order glasses. Dr. Perrine was very helpful and I particularly appreciated her very positive manner. She was also able to refer me to another doctor/clinic for additional care. -Warren M. of Powder Springs DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT TO HELP US TRANSFORM VISION CARE IN GEORGIA “A donor advised fund of Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta,” is matching up to $50,000 through the end of 2024. June 1, 2024 Celebrating 75 Years in Style While Advancing the Mission

At the Capitol

On February 8, 2024, the State of Georgia House of Representatives recognized the 75th anniversary of the founding of Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc. In the House Chamber, Representative Mary Margaret Oliver read into the records a proclamation acknowledging our 75 years of service to Georgians in need of clear vision.

On June 1, 2024, Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc.

celebrated its 75th Anniversary during a memorable Founders’ Day Ball at Factory Atlanta in Chamblee. Over 200 attendees, including Georgia Lions, Chamblee Mayor Brian Mock, and friends gathered for the festive milestone celebration. Factory Atlanta, with the ability to project imagery onto walls, allowed us to tell our rich history in both pictures and words. Guests enjoyed music and dancing to a Frank Sinatra impersonator, Charlie Fellingham, along with performances by “Sammy Davis” and “Diana Ross.” The main stage presentations showcased GLLF’s founding, celebrated the Peach Bowl, and honored volunteers and the Recycling Center. A notable announcement from PIP, Jim Ervin revealed the two-year grant awarded for the Sight For Kids program. One of our guests summed up the evening:

Representatives Joe Campbell of Camilla Lions Club #7394 and Renaldo Martinez of Loganville Legacy Lions Club joined her at the podium and the entire House of Representatives gave a standing ovation to Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and Lions Clubs throughout Georgia. •

Advocacy to Transform Vision Care for Children Georgia urgently needs a vision screening system for all pre-K-12 students which is effective for families, schools and providers. Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation recommends that Georgia policymakers take action especially in light of the changes in children’s vision since the pandemic. •

Vision for the Future - Sight For Kids On Oct. 8, 2024 Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation announced its partnership with Lions Clubs International Foundation and Johnson & Johnson, to address the growing need for vision care services for children in some of the most populated counties in Georgia through Sight For Kids.

IN COLLABORATION WITH

In coordination with GLLF’s current school-based screening programming, the Sight For Kids program will expand into Fulton, Chatham, Clayton, Cobb, and Gwinnett counties providing vision services to students in more than 50 schools over two years. How the GLLF comprehensive school-based Sight For Kids program will work: • 10,000 children screened by Georgia Lions Club members to identify students with a potential vision problem. • Approximately 40% of the children screened will be referred – GLLF will organize local ophthalmologists and optometrists to conduct complete free exams and eyeglasses or other essential services, such as eye drops or referrals for surgery. • Special Treatment – GLLF will coordinate special treatments through local partnerships with ophthalmologists in the area as indicated. Georgia is the third state in the U.S. to implement this partnership program. •

“I loved the entertainment. I thought it was well organized and time was managed well. Everyone was friendly and I appreciated the spacious facility. . .It was a great event, well-orchestrated.“ •
