Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation FY24 Impact Report

June 1, 2024 Celebrating 75 Years in Style While Advancing the Mission

At the Capitol

On February 8, 2024, the State of Georgia House of Representatives recognized the 75th anniversary of the founding of Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc. In the House Chamber, Representative Mary Margaret Oliver read into the records a proclamation acknowledging our 75 years of service to Georgians in need of clear vision.

On June 1, 2024, Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, Inc.

celebrated its 75th Anniversary during a memorable Founders’ Day Ball at Factory Atlanta in Chamblee. Over 200 attendees, including Georgia Lions, Chamblee Mayor Brian Mock, and friends gathered for the festive milestone celebration. Factory Atlanta, with the ability to project imagery onto walls, allowed us to tell our rich history in both pictures and words. Guests enjoyed music and dancing to a Frank Sinatra impersonator, Charlie Fellingham, along with performances by “Sammy Davis” and “Diana Ross.” The main stage presentations showcased GLLF’s founding, celebrated the Peach Bowl, and honored volunteers and the Recycling Center. A notable announcement from PIP, Jim Ervin revealed the two-year grant awarded for the Sight For Kids program. One of our guests summed up the evening:

Representatives Joe Campbell of Camilla Lions Club #7394 and Renaldo Martinez of Loganville Legacy Lions Club joined her at the podium and the entire House of Representatives gave a standing ovation to Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and Lions Clubs throughout Georgia. •

Advocacy to Transform Vision Care for Children Georgia urgently needs a vision screening system for all pre-K-12 students which is effective for families, schools and providers. Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation recommends that Georgia policymakers take action especially in light of the changes in children’s vision since the pandemic. •

Vision for the Future - Sight For Kids On Oct. 8, 2024 Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation announced its partnership with Lions Clubs International Foundation and Johnson & Johnson, to address the growing need for vision care services for children in some of the most populated counties in Georgia through Sight For Kids.

IN COLLABORATION WITH

In coordination with GLLF’s current school-based screening programming, the Sight For Kids program will expand into Fulton, Chatham, Clayton, Cobb, and Gwinnett counties providing vision services to students in more than 50 schools over two years. How the GLLF comprehensive school-based Sight For Kids program will work: • 10,000 children screened by Georgia Lions Club members to identify students with a potential vision problem. • Approximately 40% of the children screened will be referred – GLLF will organize local ophthalmologists and optometrists to conduct complete free exams and eyeglasses or other essential services, such as eye drops or referrals for surgery. • Special Treatment – GLLF will coordinate special treatments through local partnerships with ophthalmologists in the area as indicated. Georgia is the third state in the U.S. to implement this partnership program. •

“I loved the entertainment. I thought it was well organized and time was managed well. Everyone was friendly and I appreciated the spacious facility. . .It was a great event, well-orchestrated.“ •
