not Gandy Dancer. Road noise from Hwy 5 isn’t great and I would recom- mend a leash for dogs for that area at least. Where to celebrate after: The Gateway Cafe. Their cinnamon roll is so good. How do you get there? From Coeur d’Alene head south on Highway 95 to Plummer. Take a left on Highway 5, in 4.6 miles go right on Parkside Road. The trailhead with parking and campsites will be on the left. N Nspire Challenge Rating:

A 40-minute drive from Coeur d’Alene, Heyburn State Park offers this nice hike and many others. This hike was peaceful and beautiful, taking you through an old-growth forest. What was most noteworthy? I was surprised and happy to see so many flowers along the hike. On a warm day it was nice to wind down into a nice cool canyon with Pee Dee Creek trickling along. I saw quite a few deer along the way as well as a few nice views of the lake. Are there restrooms? Yes, at the trailhead Know before you go: Signs at the start say Scout Out Loop
From a section of the trail sits a railroad bridge 200 feet above.
