Lisa Wilson spent three years coming up with a single body wash scent for men’s grooming company, Cremo. ‘Golden Amber,’ bottom left, featuring notes of currant, pineapple and moss, eventually launched at Target. Lisa Wilson’s two fragrance tips: i Many people fall in love with a fragrance at a store and when they put it on at home, discover it doesn’t smell the same. It won’t, she says. “Fragrances go through top, middle and base notes. They morph, they change.” Wilson suggests people put a fragrance on a blotter in the store and walk around with it and let it dry for at least 20 minutes. If they like the fragrance after that, then put it on their skin, walk around for about 30 minutes and see if they still like it. If not, start over with another scent. i Don’t be turned off by buying something fragranced, such as a candle, at a store like Target, Wilson says. “I’ve worked on hundreds and many of them are delightful. Don’t think just because it’s at a store you wouldn’t buy something at, the quality isn’t there.” It is, she says. Expensive perfumes or candles aren’t trying to be commercial, so they don’t need to sell to everybody, she says. “It’s going to attract a certain client because it’s at a higher price point.”
