THE

Be a buddy! Not a bully.

ODD SOCKS On Tuesday 12th November, Abbey held Odd Socks Day to support Anti-Bullying week 2019. Pupils wore ‘odd socks’ to celebrate what makes us all unique. Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-person, bullying has a signi fi cant impact on a child’s life well in to adulthood. Together with the Anti-Bullying Alliance, Abbey pledged to show simple acts of kindness; showing compassion; smiling; being a good friend; listening to others and stopping to think before we say a hurtful words. Or hitting ‘like’ on a hurtful social media post, can create a safe and happy school, for everyone. At Abbey we have two anti-bullying messages; ‘Be A Buddy Not A Bully’ and ‘Abbey Let’s Start S.T.O.P’. The STOP message helps us to have an assertive phrase; ‘STOP! I don’t like that’. S.T.O.P helps us to de fi ne bullying; Several Times On Purpose and it helps children to decide what to do if they feel that they are being bullied; Start Telling Other People . VOICE OF AN ANGEL On Friday afternoon, I sang the ‘aaah ahh’ bit in the snow fl ake scene of The Nutcracker with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, as part of Ex Cathedra Academy of Vocal Music. I had to wear all black and go down into the orchestra pit to sing. I will be singing in a couple of the matinee performances at weekends – if you go along to the ballet, listen out for me singing! If you’d like to be part of this fantastic experience next year with me, you can search online for Ex Cathedra Academy of Vocal Music to fi nd out about my choir. Thanks to Sopie-Rose in 3MW for the story.
