Super! Y3’s half-term summary
HEROES Year 3 have had a super–magni fi cent, amazingly- remarkable, super-heroic half-term working on our ‘Superheroes’ topic! We super-kicked our topic off on Wednesday 8th January, with a visit from Chrissy Marshall, a.k.a. ‘Sensible Pencil’. The children learnt how to draw cartoons and caricatures. The children spent their Art lessons this half term learning about sketching and shading. They also developed their colour mixing skills, by completing a colour wheel learning about primary, secondary and tertiary colours. This led to a study of one of the world’s most famous pop artists—Roy Lichtenstein. The children looked at a variety of his work. They studied his use of bold colours, black outlines and ‘benday dots’. After this, the children created their own ‘Pop Art’ design using their names and using his techniques. During PE lessons this half term, the children have been creating their own ‘Superhero v. Supervillains’ dance. They have been using their imaginations to work together to develop a sequence of movements in time to music. Last week, Year 3 held a series of workshops, where parents and carers were invited to help the children make their own superhero capes. The children had been working hard to come up with a special design for a logo to be sewn onto the back of their capes. Year 3 have also had visits from real-life superheroes. Our local PCSO, Leslie Pardoe, and her colleague came in to tell us all about the important work they do in the community. We were visited by Chris, a fi re fi ghter, who talked to us about what his job involves, and Miss Bevan was lucky enough to dress up in his uniform! We were also visited by Manny and Pardeep who told us about the amazing jobs they do in science. The fi nale of our topic has been the exhibition on Tuesday 11th February. Parents and carers were invited into the small hall and classrooms to see all of the creative work the children have produced. They were also able to watch the video of all three classes Supe r t a s t i c -Supe rhe ro dance s—wear i ng the i r magni fi cent capes. Thanks to Mrs. Bevan for the story.
