Where were you born? I was born in Laurel, Mississippi on a farm with a brother and sister and lots of cousins. My Mom was from a big family and my Dad’s family did not live far away. Where did you go to school? I went to Elementary and High School in Laurel and then Mississippi State for college. I started selling books during the summer for the Southwestern Company located in Nashville. It is one of the oldest book companies in Tennessee. That was what brought me to Nashville. They were educational books and recipe books. You know, I love to cook! I was involved in the development of the book, The Encyclopedia of American Cooking … that book is still in print today! By the way, check out page 7 “Kid’s Cooking”.. . make a Pizza Mug!

Sports? I played basketball and ran track. I was pretty good at track, and ended up being score keeping for the basketball team… a bit short for basketball! I loved relays and track. My husband is also a runner and so are my kids and grandchildren!

Who is Marsha Blackburn?

What do you do for fun? I love to power walk, burns calories and I love to eat BLT’s. I am not a sandwich person, but with keto bread, I can really enjoy a BLT! My grandson is teaching me how to play Pickle ball which is cross between badminton and tennis.

Who has influenced you the most in your life? This is a hard one! I can’t pick just one because I was fortunate to have several. My Grandmother was a non-traditional woman. She was adventurous and attended college in early 1900’s! That was quite unusual during her time, especially being from the south. She had quite the influence in my life. My college professor, my parents, and my big extended family, they were all wonderful! They weigh into your life and help guide your way. They affirm you and correct you when appropriate.
