This was done so secretly that recipients didn’t know who had been so thoughtful and loving. Of course, strictly speaking, the custom of gift giving dates back to the wise men who brought presents to the Saviour at birth. Remember, however, we haven’t told the whole story if we leave it sim ply at that. The truest and holiest measure of gift-giving goes back through the endless pages of eternity itself. God, in His divine love and holy compassion for mankind, gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
