to criticize other Christians, but some of them are doing things of which I don’t approve, as far as con duct is concerned. Should I just keep quiet? It bothers me very much.” A. There is no way to give a cate gorical answer on this. There are times when it is sinful to be quiet and other times when it might be best to reserve comment. Many prob lems are created because people are generally inclined to criticize others too much. Being a Christian is a full time job. Let us be busy doing what IF YOU WERE GOD That Christmas Day, if you were God, And that was Your Son on that stable sod, Wrapped for death with its sin-cursed sting. Would you have made the angels sing? Would you have sent a lovely star To guide the wise men from afar? While weaklings did what haters bid? Our loving Heav'nly Father did. *I On Calv'ry's road, if you were God And that was your Son 'neath scourg ing rod Bearing the pain and bitter loss, Would you have nailed Him to the cross? Would you have let Him suffer so That sinners might salvation know? While this He did their sins to rid? Ask the Lord to show you how He would have you conduct your own life. Q. Portland, Ore. — “7 was confused by a man at the company where I work who told me that he doesn’t believe the Bible, pointing to vari ous inaccuracies which he says it contains. As an example, he referred to Job 24:22 which states, ‘He draw- eth also the mighty with his power, he riseth up and no man is sure of
life.’ And yet as a Christian I know that we can be assured of eternal life. Will you please explain this to me so that I can be a help and have the ma t t e r clarified in my own mind?” A. John 3:16, 5:24; Romans 10:10 and many other verses assure us of eternal life. Job 24:22 is not talking about eternal life. Notice the context showing how he laments the way in which the ungodly in this life seem to prosper. See the 73rd Psalm for a similar outlook. He is endeavoring to show how the wicked often from all outward appearance have it their way. While their going seems to be unhampered and unhindered, before long God reckons with these people in His infinite wisdom. Q. Providence, R.l. — “Where did the Bible get its verse and chapter num berings ?” A. The chapter divisions antedated the verse numberings by a number of years. In 1551, the Greek New Testament was numbered by verses by Sir Robert Stevens. In 1560 the first English Bible was numbered. It is known as the Geneva Bible. Q. Tucson, Ariz. — “Where does a woman go who had an abortion 35 years ago? She has confessed her sins and asked God to forgive her. Will He do it?” A. The only place to go is to the Lord. As Peter asked, “To whom shall we go Lord, for thou hast the words of eternal life.” God doesn’t want us to go to Him only when life is filled with troubles. None of us is perfect. We are all sinners, and all peed the Saviour. I John 1 :9 reminds the believer that if we confess our sins the Lord stands ready to cleanse and forgive us from all iniquity. When a believer sins, immediately the indwelling Spirit begins a min istry to that individual heart. Some people unfortunately do not immedi- 30
