Quatre générations de Latour se sont rencontrées à Saint- Albert, le 6 juillet dernier, pour prendre part aux festivités du 25 e pique-nique annuel des descendants de la famille de Raphaël et Ozana Latour. C’est à l’été 1990 qu’a eu lieu le premier pique-nique des Latour. Vingt-quatre ans plus tard, ce rassemblement est encore aussi populaire. Des 286 descendants encore vivants, 233 étaient de la fête. «On dirait que ça ne fait pas si longtemps que ça que nous avons commencé cette tradition, a raconté l’aînée des sœurs Latour, Cécile Racine. Il y a toujours un bon groupe et ça nous permet de rencontrer les générations plus jeunes.» Chapeauté par celles que l’on surnomme affectueusement les Sœurs Grises, Cécile, Laurette, Rita, Thérèse, Marie-Jeanne et Gilberte, ce rassemblement annuel se veut avant tout une occasion de revoir la parenté et de s’amuser comme dans le bon vieux temps. Une plaque souvenir intitulée Notre héritage a été remise auxmembres de lapremièregénération. Elle représente la ferme paternelle dans la 8 e concession, à Saint-Albert, et est conçue à partir d’une planche de la ferme familiale.

RUSSELL | Six-year-old Isaac Berkers of Russell is celebrating two years since his successful bone marrow transplant, with an outdoor celebration and fund- raiser from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on August 17 at the Russell fairgrounds. Isaac was born with a rare immuno- compromised disease and was gravely ill until the transplant at age four. His moth- er Sandi wished to mark this important milestone in a significant way. She spoke to friends and the whole event quickly took shape with the help of the Russell Optimist Club.“I’m just a mom,”said Berk-
The event, “Wear Green for Isaac,” will raise funds and awareness for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Ronald McDonald House Charities, which played critical roles in Isaac’s care. Canadian Blood Services will also be on hand to provide donor screenings. The celebration will include a dunk tank, water slide, bouncy structures, live music, a beef, pork and corn roast.
