Someone Needs a Hug The Senior Companion Program is a national volunteer program offering isolated older adults the opportunity to make meaningful social connections. Our volunteers share their time and friendship through visits, phone calls, and correspondence. Due to fear of COVID-19 and safety precautions to reduce its spread, many older adults feel more alone than ever. Senior Companions recognize the value of personal connections and with generous mug donations from our community members, are able to create a safe alternative to a physical hug. Throughout the month of February, Senior Companion volunteers deliver a Hug-in-a-mug to isolated older adults in partnership with Lutheran Social Services, Jewish Family and Children Services, Southern Arizona Veteran Affairs Health Care System, St. Luke’s Home, the Tohono O’odham Nation, and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. Every Hug in a Mug is filled with compassion and lets each recipient know that they matter.

We still need more volunteers 55+ who can help maximize our efforts to make a difference in the lives of older adults. Share your compassion, your time, and experience to brighten someone’s life. If delivering a mug can make such a difference, imagine how much more we can do together!

If you would like to serve your community and be a lifeline to homebound older adults, please call 520-305-3453 to learn more about becoming a Senior Companion Volunteer! For more information, call (520)305-3453
