THE STRENGTH OF FAMILY TIES APPRECIATING MY LOVING AND SUPPORTIVE SIBLINGS
They say you can choose your friends but can’t choose your family. If I’m being honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I adore my family, and I’m blessed with two incredible siblings. They’re always
time with their uncle Nick. My sister lives in Florida, so we don’t see her as often, but she goes out of her way to do special things for my kids. One year, my sister went to Disney with a sign that had my kids’ names on it and took photos with the princesses and characters holding a happy birthday poster, then
there for me whenever I need them and have been a constant support throughout our lives. I get an extra opportunity to share my appreciation for them in April when we celebrate Siblings Day on the 10th. My brother and sister are fraternal twins who are three years younger than me. We joke that they were born on the Siete de Mayo because Cinco de Mayo was already taken. Growing up with my siblings was interesting because they couldn’t be more different from one another. My sister is 5 feet, 4 inches, with blonde hair and blue eyes, while my brother is 6 feet, 2 inches, with brown hair and brown eyes. All their measurables are about as
combined into a framed poster and gave it to each of them for their first birthdays — they still have them up in their rooms. My brother has a similar relationship with my kids and always tries to make them feel loved. Before the pandemic, he came with us to Disney and proved he was a super-uncle. Whenever he spent time with us, he immediately asked what stroller
he could push or what kid he could carry. It was great to spend time with him in that environment.
far apart as it gets. While in school, my sister applied herself and put most of her effort into learning math and science. My brother didn’t put as much focus on academics and instead enjoyed his extracurricular activities like swimming and going to social events. We were always very close when we were younger. My brother and I watched the “Ghostbusters” and “Star Wars” movies together for hours on end. Even now, my brother still loves Chewbacca and will make Wookiee sounds whenever given the opportunity. My sister and I always spent time together, and our relationship held firm, even when she decided to go to the University of Michigan over Michigan State!
My brother has a truly special relationship with our dog, Weston. Whenever we go out of town, he wants to come and spend time with Weston. He works from home, so I’m sure he just spends hours giving endless attention to the dog. I know Weston loves whenever he comes over. The bond siblings share is undeniable. I’m so fortunate to have an amazing brother and sister, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. Here’s to many more years filled with memories we will cherish forever.
As we’ve grown older, our sibling bond has only grown stronger. My kids adore their aunt Lindsay and never miss a chance to spend

CLEAN YOUR COATS BEFORE THEY HIBERNATE!
Earth Day is coming up on Saturday, April 22. But do your kids know why we commemorate the holiday? Do you? If you don’t know much about the history of environmentalism — or just want to learn more about the state of our planet — consider celebrating Earth Day by watching a documentary as a family. Dozens of fantastic films cover everything from the crusade to preserve our coral reefs to how farmers use soil health to enhance the planet. Here are a few of our favorites. ‘KIDS TAKE ACTION AGAINST OCEAN PLASTIC’ — This short five-minute documentary from National Geographic follows a group of Hawaiian students determined to clean up their local beaches. It’s available for free on National Geographic’s YouTube channel! (If you watch it and love this documentary, check out the PG-rated flick "Plastic Island" on Netflix, which tackles the same issue in Indonesia.) ‘BRAVE BLUE WORLD: RACING TO SOLVE OUR WATER CRISIS’ — This PG-rated documentary about water security takes place on five continents and stars celebrities Liam Neeson, Matt Damon, and Jaden Smith. Check it out on Netflix. 5 Documentaries to Watch on Earth Day Share the Facts With Your Whole Family!
The Ins and Outs of Clothing Storage
Spring is upon us, and while we may still need a light coat this month, it’s time to store our heavy outer coats. Clothing storage may seem straightforward enough, but you should remember a few necessities to protect your clothes. One of the most vital to-dos is having your winter coats professionally cleaned before putting them away. Outer coats are heavy garments, but this doesn’t mean they can withstand odor buildup, discoloration, insects, and more. Properly cleaning and stowing your outer coats can ensure they last many more winters. HAVE YOUR COATS PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED Avoid washing your winter coats at home, as they’ll likely be damaged in the process. If you try to clean your coats in a regular washing machine, you may end up with melted zippers, broken embellishments, or unevenly dried coats, which can lead to more issues down the line. You can always trust our team at Janet Davis Cleaners to provide quick service and sparkling results when cleaning your winterwear. But you don't have to take our word for it! "This is the first time going to Janet Davis Cleaners and was very impressed. Went in person and dropped off three winter coats for cleaning. Very friendly personal service from the get-go. Felt very comfortable there. Our coats were ready in two days and very satisfied with the outcome. This is now our go-to cleaners and definitely recommend this place to all.”
‘EXTINCTION: THE FACTS’ — This hard-hitting documentary from famous nature historian David Attenborough is perfect for kids ages 16 and up. It tackles serious topics like species loss, food and water shortages, and the relationship between climate change and pandemic diseases. “Extinction: The Facts” is available on PBS.org or Prime Video.
‘KISS THE GROUND’ — Join actor Woody Harrelson on Netflix for an inspiring look at soil, why it matters, and what farmers and activists are doing to save and enhance it — and our food supply. The documentary is family-friendly and rated G. None of these documentaries existed in 1970 when anti- pollution activists came together to create Earth Day, build the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and pass laws to protect our air and water. But they’re a wonderful extension of that spirit! Hopefully, you'll be able to find time to watch at least one of them this month. After watching, consider taking action and volunteering for a green project near you.

4 Go Fly a Kite!
FLY A KITE LIKE A PRO 3 Expert Tips and Tricks
Flying a kite is a quintessential spring activity, especially for children. But if you struggled to keep your kite in the air as a kid, you’re not alone. Fortunately, you can use a few simple tricks to significantly improve your skills — and help your child become the best kite-flier on the block.
unspool your string will be enough to launch it into the sky. When it’s not windy enough for your kite to take flight, try a long-line launch by unspooling about 50 feet of string in a straight
line and then taking off running. Remember that kite- flying simply won’t work on some days. If your kite keeps crashing tail first, it may indicate too little wind, while a head-first kite fall may mean too strong a breeze.
FIND THE RIGHT SPOT. Hopefully, it goes without saying that you shouldn’t fly kites near power lines. Flying it near trees and cars is also a bad idea. It’s best to have at least a quarter-mile open space around you for safety and the best wind conditions. Beaches, empty sports fields, and parks with wide open areas are the perfect places to get your kite airborne.
KEEP IT TIGHT. Launching your kite is usually the trickiest part of the process, but keeping it aloft isn’t always straightforward. To ensure your kite stays in the air, you
must retain tension on the string — but not too much. It’s time to reel out some of the line when the kite begins to tug. But too much string can weigh down your kite and bring it back to earth. When your line starts to slack, slowly spool it in until it feels taut. Keep your eyes on your kite and your mind on the reel, and you’ll be flying like a pro in no time.
HAVE THE WIND AT YOUR BACK. Literally! This position will allow you to watch your kite as it
ascends into the air. On a sufficiently windy day, simply holding the kite up by its lowest point and letting go as you
