WORK OF THE BIBLE WOMEN Mrs. T. C. Horton, Supt.
A BIBLE WOMAN was taking her vaca- . tion, and much did she need the rest; but on this particular morning a strong feeling o f dissatisfaction possessed her; it seemed that she ought to be at work even though it was time for her to rest. The Spirit o f God was speaking to her “Even if you do need your rest, what about the needy souls just here?” And so she said, “ I f there is any one you want me to reach, dear Lord, just show her to me.” A few moments later, stepping onto the porch o f the apartment house, she met her next- door neighbor. Such a hungry, needy sou l! A .Christian, but away from God and groping about for light. The conver sations were many, and when the neighbor left, there w'as an earnest request for a Bible class in her home. In talking with her afterwards about the Spirit’s leading in the matter, she, said, “ It surely was o f God, for we had tried so hard, to go to another beach and'could not find a plqce, when our friend, Mrs. H., asked us if we would not go to her place for a couple of weeks.” It was four months before we could find opportunity for the class, but at its first meeting there was an unsaved soul present whom we are claim ing for the Lord Jesus Christ.—M. N ea r1the close o f a seemingly barren afternoon’s work we were led, after nearly passing by, to go to a small house in the rear o f a long lot. An old man met us at the door and said: “Well. I think my wife will be glad to see you, please come in.” Then he left us alone together. We found a very lovely child o f God, blind. They had lived together fifty years, hav ing come here recently for her health, and
knew very few people. The husband had been a backslider for years. The wife longed so to hear the W ord o f God read and said she regretted more than anything not having committed more o f it to mem ory while she had her eyesight. After we had read to her for some time, the hus band slipped in, and later we noticed he was holding his Testament and following the reading. Soon we were in conversa tion with him. As he câme to see thé love o f God for him, his heart was broken up and it was a very happy old couple we left behind, and a rrtuch refreshed worker who passed on.—H. _ _____ As the worker was returning home one evening, a lady whom she had been want ing to talk to for some time, got on the car. The conversation turned , to a man noted for his good works, and the worker said, “ One often wonders if it is just nat ural goodness' leading people to do such things, or if it springs from a new birth.” The lady said, “ I wish you would tell me just what you mean by a new birth.: The term is new to me.” W e explained it very carefully and then asked her if she knew she was born again, and she said, “Yes, I believe; but I did not know we could be sure about those things.” As we gave her Scripture after ScripturJ reference to prove it, her face began to shine and she said, “ It seems almost too good to be true, doesn’t it?” And as she left she said, “ I shall never cease to be thankful that I got on this car with you. You have given me just what I know I have been wanting for years.”—H. ' At the close o f a Bible class recently, thé teacher spoke to a strange young lady
