2. It Gives the Blessings o f Obedience. “Six' days' shalt thou labor” is in the 4th commandment (Exod. 20:9). 3. It Gives the Right to Eat and Satis­ faction o f Eating Our Own Bread (2 Thess. 3:10). Work is as honorable as it Is blessed. 4. It Is Profitable. The wise man said, “In all labor there is profit” (Prov. 14:23). But when a minister said that to an old man at work, he replied, “No; Sir, there is one labor in which there is no profit.” “And what can that be?” said the other. “I la­ bored long in sin, and it brought me no gain.” 5. Sunday, February IS What the Snow and Rain Teach Me. — Isa. 55.10, 11. 1. That God Is W ise and Good —Ps. 65: 9-13. The water is in the sea. It must water the ground. Can man transport and pour it forth? Impossible. How did God fix it? Heated and vaporized it by the sun. Vapor, lighter than air, it rises and gathers in clouds. How get it over the land? Send the wind. How bring it down? Cool the air and condense the vapor to water again. But if it falls will its violence furrow the earth and destroy vegetation? Yes; so God cools it little by little, and it comes in gentle rains. Is it not wonderful? The snow is water in cold storage. Tt> melt in summer and stream down from the mountains when there is no rain. 2. That I Ought to B e Kind to Friends and Enemies —Matt. 5 :45. God sends the rain on the just and the unjust. But we must not forget that the rain of His grace can fall only on the just, from the sky- behind the sky. And the day comes when the meek only shall inherit the earth (Ps. 37:9), in the resurrection when Jesus comes to reign. 3. That the Rain and Snow Illustrate God’s W ord —Isa. 55:10, 11. What does this text, say about it? What encourage­ ment in this to give the Word to our neigh­ bors and the heathen? The snow is dazzling white but David thought washed souls whiter (Ps. 51:7). A little girl called this “ The Snow Prayer.’’ What is it that washes whiter than snow?
