The crown of the Crucified.— The Fig and the Flesh.
Scripture references to the fig afford an interesting study on some aspects of the flesh: 1. By the flesh we cannot hide the shame of sin.—Gen. 3:7; Gal. 2:16. 2. Its improvements are only temporary. Hezekiah lived a little longer to commit his worst error and died after all.—2 Kings 20:6, 7. 3. The flesh often makes a “fair show’’ but has nothing behind it.—Mark 11:20, 21. 4. It is spared year by year only by suf ferance.:—Luke 13:7. 5. Its increased activities are but por tends of impending judgment-.—Luke 21:29. —S.
