THE KING ’S BUSINESS

not be dropped from the, Scofield Course. Your words of comfort and sympathy, also ‘Keep Sweet’ have been a help to me. Al though at times it all seems hard, yet it is a blessed comfort to know that many friends are remembering me in their prayers. Oh, no, I do not blame my Saviour for this breakdown. I know I have been too ambi tious, perhaps, and nature must rebel. I know I need the lesson of humility and pa tience and am trusting that this may bring me nearer to Him. . I know He cares and in His own good time I shall be restored to health, if it is His will. Thank you for your interest and prayers.” Business and Evangelism One of our associates recently unwitting ly paid a stranger’s taxes. Being notified of his error he called at the man’s office and the matter being adjusted, said, “Mr. ——, are you a Christian?” “Y—yes,” said he, “after my fashion.” “If your fashion is Christ’s fashion,” was the response, “you are all right; if not your are wrong.” “I am trying to ibe a Christian; my mother was religious and I am trying to be so for her sake.” “But you cannot be a Chris tian by trying to be. What would you think of a man. who when asked, ‘Are you an American?’ w.Ould say, ‘I am trying to be ?’ A man is an American or he is not. He may try to be a worthy citizen or a worthy Christian, but he is citizen or Chris tian without effor( or trying. That salva tion is by faith through grace was ex plained and proven by Scripture over and over. Still the gentleman said, “I do the best I can. I am a member of Dr. ----- ’s church; I have tried to live up to it, but I do not get any satisfaction. My brother (a prominent member) told me to try tith- - ing, and I did, faithfully, for a time, but it did me no good and T gave it up.” “Of course it did not; see how you are ever falling back, again on doing. Do you not know the hymn that sings, “Nothing either great or small Remains for me to do, Jesus died and paid it all, All the debt I owe?” (Concluded on Page 123)

Holiday Services During the holidays some of the students were engaged in deputation work. A series of meetings were held in the Lank-ershim Presbyterian Church, where Mr. Chester White is ministering. Mr. Harlow Parsons, one- of the Institute' students, did most of the preaching. A deep work of grace was wrought in the lives of the believers and some sixty persons professed conversion. The church is thoroughly revived and en ters the new year with a new sense of the meaning of Christian living. Under the leadership of Mr. Bovee, an other of our students, services were con ducted in the Congregational Church iti Sherman and great blessing attended the giving of the Gospel. There were many surrenders among the believers and some twenty professed a saving faith in Christ. Others of the students were greatly owned in services conducted in different sections of the city. The Correspondence Course. Direct results of the Scofield Course, and indirect results of the incident correspon dence are illustrated in the following: One writes: “I want to tell you of some results of the Bible study in -------- . Last Sunday three of the class united with the church, one on confession of faith, and two were received who had been members some where in their youth, but had lived for years without any Christian affiliations or pro fession. , We have been without a pastor or preaching here for a year, till just now. A man is sent here to preach once in two weeks. So it is not the work of the Church in any way. Of course we maintain a flourishing Sunday School all the time, but it is . a country community, only a depot and a store, and cannot support a pastor exclusively as yet. “You will be rejoiced to know that all our class here (there are nine of us; two are not sending in papers, but do the work) are Christians but one. Pray for that one.” Another writes: “Am so glad that I shall
