¡ways leads us forth to triumph in the anointed one, and ¡who diffuses by us the fragrance of the knowledge of him in emery place” (2 Cor. 2:14, lit. trans.). They say that once a piece of common clay Such fragrance breathed as from a garden blows; “My secret is but this,” they heard it say— “ I have been near tfie rose!” So grant, I pray Thee, Lord, that by Thy grace The fragrance of Thy Life may dwell in me; That as I move about from place to place, Men’s thoughts may turn to Thee. —F. J. E x le y . Holiness is doing the will of God in everything, through the power and guid ance of the Holy Spirit. Why is it that in the experience of . so many nominal Christians there is such a gap between their professed religion and their daily life? It must be because an endeavor is made to keep life in a series of water-tight compartments. It must be confessed, with shame and misgiving, that there is too frequently a terrible cleavage between the gospel we profess, and the bargains we strike, and the money we spend, and the pleasures we pursue— for holiness is the supremacy of God’s will in every realm of character and conduct.— Life of Faith. OCTOBER 28 Holiness for a Holy People “1 am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for 1 am holy” (Lev. 11:45). " For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” (2 Cor. 1:20). Prayer is this: to look into the Bible and see what God has promised; to look into our hearts and ask ourselves what we want; and to look up to God to give us what we want, and what He has promised as the purchase of Christ’s blood; expect ing that though we are most unworthy, yet He will be as good as His Word. —Brethren Evangelist. "Blessed is the man that endureth temp tation: for ¡when he is tried, he shall re ceive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him" (Jas. 1 : 12 ). If you are going to grow, there cannot fail to be those times of testing in your life that God allows for His own wise purpose. . . . Satan tempts in order that he may destroy. God allows him to tempt in order that we may grow stronger through resisting temptation by His grace, and through discovering in Jesus Christ the infinite resources that there are to enable us to confront temptation and to win through to a new liberty and a new joy in the Lord.— J. All things are moving on: We’re not left here to stay; ’Tis but “ a little while,” When we shall hail the day Foretold by Him whose name is love, When He will call us Home above! At His appointed hour That joy we’ll surely know, Who bought us with His blood, Because He loved us so. And we shall spend eternity In praising Him who set us free! — E dith B. S chofield . Conference Echoes Reports of blessing received at the Lake Sammamish Bible Conference, near Seattle, Wash., have caused many Christians to praise the Lord. Meetings were held July 18 to August 1. The chief speakers were George E. Bostrom of Tacoma, Wash., and C. B. Hedstrom of Chicago, 111. (Through error in the July K in o ’ s B usiness , the city of Mr. Bostrom’s residence was given as “ Iowa,” Wash., rather than “Tacoma,” Wash.) Writing of the conference, Leonard W . Lindholm, Vice-President of the Lake Sam mamish Bible Camp Association, declared: “The messages which Brother Bostrom brought relative to the Holy Spirit and the deeper life were attended with unction and power. God also used Brother Hed strom in a wonderful way in the camp. These two men worked together, prayed to gether, carried the burden together, and rejoiced together. Many of God’s people were revived, a deep work was done in the hearts of Christian workers, and praise G od! souls were saved.” Gospel W ork Among Russians Peter Deyneka, writing to Paul W . Rood in the early summer from Shanghai, China, where he was holding evangelistic meetings among Russian people, told of his journey in Poland, Russia, and Siberia. He spoke of great blessing on the borders of Russia as he fellowshiped with the workers of the Russian Gospel Association, of which he is General Director. In Russia he met some of the preachers whom the Association is helping, and was asked by them to thank the friends in America. He found that the evangelical churches in Russia that were open for gospel meetings were over crowded. GLEANINGS, FROM THE GREEK, by Alfred Marshall, was incorrectly priced at 75 cents in the July K ing ' s B usiness . The booklet is available from The Cavendish Institute, 29 Paternoster Row, London, E. C. 4, England, at 25 cents.
