Our Community’s Favorite Thanksgiving Traditions Gather, Give Thanks, and Dig In
It’s time for one of the coziest holidays of the year: Thanksgiving! It’s the season for delicious food, second helpings, and wonderful moments with family and friends.
We asked our amazing community members to share how they like to celebrate, from the dishes they can’t live without to the little traditions that make the day extra special. Here’s what they had to say. THE CONNER ‘OHANA: FAMILY, STUFFING, AND GRATITUDE For the Conner family, Dan, Kacie, Colton, and Rylie, Thanksgiving is all about family. “Our favorite part about Thanksgiving is FAMILY! It’s a time to reflect, unwind, and appreciate the simple things,” they share. “There’s nothing quite like being surrounded by loved ones, sharing a home-cooked meal, and recognizing life’s blessings.”
Their favorite dish is this homemade stuffing, a recipe full of tradition, love, and memories.
KACIE’S STUFFING RECIPE Ingredients • 1 package Jimmy Dean sausage • 1 cup butter • 1 cup diced onions • 1 1/2 cups diced celery
• 1 cup chopped chestnuts (Costco sells roasted and peeled chestnuts) • 3 cups chicken broth • 1 large bag (or 2 small bags) Love’s stuffing mix
Directions 1. In a large saucepan, brown sausage with butter. 2. Add onions, celery, and chestnuts; sauté for 3 minutes. 3. Add chicken broth and bring to a boil. 4. Stir in stuffing mix, then remove from heat. 5. Spray a baking dish with nonstick spray, add stuffing mixture, and bake at 350 F for 30 minutes. KELLI MATSUDA: FOOD, FAMILY, AND THE PERFECT PUMPKIN CRUNCH PUDDING CAKE From Mililani, Hawai‘i, Kelli Matsuda, a homeowner since 2005, says her favorite part of Thanksgiving is “spending all day cooking, enjoying eating for a few minutes, then hitting a food coma, all with family!” and she’s “grateful for a healthy family that can be together during the holidays.”
Her ideal plate includes a little bit of everything: turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole, and of course, pumpkin crunch!

“Sachi has a lot of knowledge of the island and knows what each neighborhood has to offer. Always patient and observant, she listens to her clients to identify what ‘home’ means to the buyer. At first, we weren’t sure what we were looking for other than the basics, general location, number of bedrooms, and a price range. Sachi took the time to show us a variety of places that fit our criteria, all the while taking mental notes and asking us questions about what makes us happy. “After several tries and some discussion, we pivoted. With a new direction, Sachi was able to find our perfect first home in Ko Olina! Once we decided on a property, Sachi and Jason became laser-focused, tenacious, responsive, and attentive, being great advocates for us. They took time to explain options and details, and in the end, they got great results. “Buying a home while you are out of state is challenging, but Sachi and Jason have great contacts and partner with wonderful people, making the whole transaction move smoothly.

4 Remodeling Tips for Shared Living
A HOUSE THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE
MAKING ROOM FOR MULTIGENERATIONAL LIVING
Multigenerational living is becoming increasingly common, whether it’s aging parents moving in, adult kids returning home, or both. While this type of arrangement can be rewarding for many reasons, it takes careful planning and thoughtful remodeling to make it work well for everyone involved. Balance is the first thing to consider when taking on this type of project. Everyone needs their space, and working with what you already have is the easiest and least expensive way to provide that. That might mean converting a basement into a private apartment, adding a kitchenette to a bedroom suite, or turning an office into a bedroom. You’ll also want to consider accessibility. If you have aging parents moving in, walk through the property and assess how easily and safely they can move through the space. Wider doorways, zero-step entries, and slip-resistant flooring are things to consider. A walk-in shower, grab bars, and adjustable showerheads in the bathroom can make a world of difference for safety. Don’t forget lighting. Maximizing natural light is ideal, but smart placement of lamps and fixtures also matters. Good lighting reduces the risk of trips and falls and helps make your home feel brighter and more inviting. Finally, storage tends to get very tight in a busy household. Use built-in shelving, under-bed drawers, and tall cabinets to maximize every inch of space. Multipurpose furniture pieces and closet organizers also keep things tidy without getting in the way.
You don’t have to start from scratch if you’re remodeling for multigenerational living. Just focus on smart changes that will make the house more functional and supportive of your family setup. With some adjustments to the layout and a little planning, you can create a space that offers both independence and togetherness, which helps everyone feel at home.
