A group of angry landlords convinced Champlain Township council Wednesday to stall increases in water rates, warning that higher charges would drive people away fromVankleek Hill. Following a heated debate, Mayor Gary Barton suggested a committee of apartment building owners present a proposal to council before the end of the year. While he said the township would consider all suggestions, Barton reiterated that increases are inevitable.

Alexis Campeau, of Ste-Télésphore, Québec, was arrested after a small quantity of marijuana was seized from the vehicle he was driving. He was released and scheduled to appear in Alexandria court September 9. )ŏ (!.0 Be wary of scams. That is the message the Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment is send- ing out after receiving complaints about possible frauds/scams using different ap- proaches.
