Best of Cruise - November 22 PTC

Ever since its heyday in the 1950’s, Rio de Janeiro has conjured up images of hedonism and excess. Playing host to the Greatest Show On Earth with more sequins and feathers than a Strictly Come Dancing show; to Orson Welles throwing the contents of his room at

the Copacabana Palace Hotel into the pool - the cidade maravilhosa has always had a reputation for bringing out the party animal in even the most staid of souls. Staged on the Friday before Ash Wednesday, the Rio Carnival parade is the festival’s highlight when the city’s twelve samba schools take to the massive Sambadrome displaying their skills in a

fierce competition. This visual spectacular of elaborate floats and more than a thousand participants in intricate costumes adorned with feathers and glitz is held along a half-mile runway. With the air reverberating to the heavy beats of steel drums and fast-paced samba rhythms, the bedazzled

performers sing, dance and entertain the audience before the night sky is illuminated by an explosion of fireworks. Azamara® has been successfully combining a two-night stay in Rio to coincide with the Carnival for many years. The festivities are the highlight of a 15-night round-trip voyage from Buenos Aires departing on 10 February 2023, also calling at Montevideo; São Paulo; Ilhabela; Parati; Buzios and Punta Del Este. There’s a similar 12-night sailing departing Buenos Aires on 6 February 2024, sailing to Montevideo and Punta Del Este in addition to Rio.

Azamara® melds a seaborne experience high on the luxury quotient with the allure of the destination. Outstanding service and cuisine mark this niche cruise company out, but it’s ‘destination immersion’ where the emphasis is on discovery and authentic local experiences which is their undoubted hallmark. A bucket-list visit to Rio de Janeiro during Carnival is unsurpassed. _____
