Board of Trustees meeting Agenda | October 2019

Transfer Students - Community college enrollments continue to decline, particularly within those populations intending to transfer for a four-year degree program. In addition, the growth of Bachelor of Applied Science degree offerings at the community college further contributes to a decline in transfer enrollments at many four-year institutions. Although CWU experienced a 3 percent decline in applications for fall 2019, we delivered a slight increase in enrolled students. This is largely due to the collaboration efforts among the CWU Departments of Extended Learning and Outreach, Student Success, and the Division of Enrollment Management. A renewed effort was placed on transfer students, with specific attention on University Center and online student enrollments. We expect continued growth in these areas into the future. Student Retention – Significant efforts have been taken across the university to address first year student retention. Lead by the Division of Academic and Student Life, a retention plan has been developed. The significant increase in retention for our fall 2018 first time, full time cohort provides early evidence that we have implemented the right strategies and tactics to turn our retention decline around. This early success can be attributed to our retention planning team and the efforts of our faculty and staff who care for our students and their successes.
