Activity Highlight– Music With Mary Mary is a wonderful pianist and one of our most coveted volunteers. Mary can be found in the activity room on Wednesdays during the first and third weeks of the month, and on Tuesday during the second and fourth week of the month. She flips between Tuesday and Wednesdays every week due to her many other volunteer gigs, where she can be found playing a piano all over the local community. Mary has been playing the piano since second grade and says “ wherever there is a piano, music will follow ”. Timber ridge has been spoiled
with many years of music created and performed by Mary. Not only does she have us tapping our feet along with the occasional belt of tunes, Mary always has us laughing. Mary believes laughing is a necessity to our health. Because of this, she never walks in without a joke book, and you better be ready to participate in the Mary mandated twenty seconds of laughter.
Staff Highlight– Adriannne Adrianne was recently hired in the Activities department to fill the role of Activities Assistant part - time in McKinleyville and part - time in Eureka. Her most recent job was
being a medical assistant. She really enjoyed the job because of all her patients and the connections she made with them. Ferndale is her hometown. Her family is comprised of her mom, and six siblings. If Adrianne could do anything for a day it would be to go shopping!!! She enjoys funny movies. One of her favorites is La La Land. Funniest Home Videos also makes her laugh. She also likes country music. One thing you might not know about Adrianne is that she loves to skydive. She also once won a prize for employee of the month. Her personal motto is “ Everyday is a good day. ” That ’ s a great attitude to have. Welcome Adrianne to the Timber Ridge Activities team!!

Resident Highlight – David
David entered the world in Seattle on December 12, 1949, and grew up in the Pacific Northwest with his mother Edith, and father Henry, younger sister Marie, and brother Philip. They were an adventurous family and spent their summer vacations exploring the islands and inlets of the Pacific Northwest via a small aluminum boat with camping equipment piled high and loaded with the family. Following High School graduation, David continued to explore the Northwest waterways, working on a Norwegian Research vessel between Seattle and Alaska. He attended the University of Washington, where he met his sweetheart, Laura, who was working at University Hospital as a nurse. They were soon married and recently celebrated their 52 nd anniversary. After earning his B.S. in Psychology at the University of Washington, David went on to attend University of Puget Sound, where he graduated with a J.D. in Law. During this time, Laura also obtained a pilot ’ s license with an IFR and multi - engine rating. David

David has always had a rich imagination which led him to write thriller novels, of which five were published. His first novel, “ Necessary Evil ” was on the New York Times Best Seller list. Later in life he developed an interest in Xtreme off - roading. He purchased a Jeep which he continually
customized in the never - ending task of making it the most capable hardcore off roader possible. He affec- tionately called it his “ Monster Jeep ”. Going Postal
June Dates
On June 13th, 1920, the United States Postal Service declared that it would no longer send
The People ’ s Car June 22nd is Worldwide VW Beetle Day. What has made the Volkswagen Beetle one of the world ’ s most recognizable and beloved automobiles? First and foremost is its innovative and fun design—a small and compact car with an innovative curved roof, a feature that makes it both aerodynamic and adorable. The Beetle was designed for much more than just fun, however; it was also affordable, practical, and reliable. Volkswagen means the “ people ’ s car, ” and these cars were intended to be affordable for all, costing just 31 weeks ’ worth of pay. Vintage Beetles sported an air - cooled rear engine, which meant that it did not need expensive cooling units and could reliably operate in both heat and cold. It also got excellent gas mileage, more than 30 miles to the gallon. The car ’ s simple engine and parts were easy to
children by parcel post. As strange as it may seem, we now remember June 13th as No Mailing Children Day. On January 1, 1913, the U.S. Post began mailing parcels and packages. Americans could now buy and sell large dry goods by mail. Some, however, took advantage of this service and sent their children through the mail. After all, the delivery cost of mail was cheaper than a train ticket. Newspaper headlines captured the phenomenon: “ Mail Carrier Safely Delivers Boy of 10 3/4 lbs to Grandmother, Cost 15 Cents. ” Assistant Postmaster General John Koons eventually declared that children didn ’ t fit within the classification of harmless live animals.
replace and inexpensive to repair and maintain. All of these reasons made the VW Beetle the world ’ s best - selling car for decades. The original Beetle was so popular
that it was built for 65 straight years from 1938 to 2003, making it the longest - produced vehicle in history. No other car even comes close.
Eyesight Essentials On a bright June day, a pair of sunglasses might seem the perfect fash- ion accessory, but sunglasses are more than a fashion statement; they are important for good eye health. On June 27, Sunglasses Day, don a pair and spread the word. Look for sunglasses that block 100 percent of both UVA and UVB radia- tion. This type of solar radiation is responsible for cataracts, skin cancer
around the eyes, and even sunburns on the eye ’ s surface. Not only will your eyes be healthier, but these sunglasses will also reduce wrinkles. Sunglasses also reduce bright glares, block wind and dust, and reduce headaches and eyestrain in bright light. Whether you choose aviators or wayfarers, keep your future bright (but not too bright).

Foxy Facts: Chickens Archaeological studies suggest that without ancient farmers growing rice and different grains, chickens may not ever have existed. It ’ s been revealed that chickens may have been domesticated thousands of years later than scientists thought. A well known person said that chickens descended from a red jungle fowl which was a many colored tropical bird from the pheasant family, because the two appeared so much the same. But proving him right has been difficult. Five varieties of jungle birds ranged from India to Northern China. Small chicken bones were also rare in fossil sites. In 2020, a study of 863 living chickens confirmed that the jungle birds were indeed the ancestors of the living chickens.
Researchers have found fossils of early chickens that date back eight thousand to eleven thousand years ago in Northern China and Pakistan. But the genetics of living birds could not narrow the time of domestication. The oldest bones belonging to chickens came from a site in Central Thailand, where farmers grew rice and grains. The growing of these grains drew birds to the fields where they made nests at the edge of the planted fields and were able to get familiar to people. Scientists traced the trail of chicken bones across Asia into the Middle East and Africa. Domestic chickens appeared ab out three thousand years ago in the Northern China and India and about two thousand eight hundred years ago in the Middle East and Northeast Africa. The first chickens in Europe were found in Italy two thousand eight hundred years ago and it was another one thousand years before chickens were introduced in to Britian.
