What do you like to do when you’re not writing? When I’m not writing, I’m usually studying for college Bible classes, Bible study sessions, or training programs. For fun, I enjoy playing golf and attending baseball games—I’m a huge Tampa Bay Rays fan. What does your family think of your writing? My brother Fred called me an author, so I guess that’s his stamp of approval as well as his wife’s sister, Tonya Gillian, and her daughter T’nora a devoted niece who calls him “Dad.” Their support means the world to me. What was one of the most surprising things you learned while writing a book? One of the biggest surprises was how much time and research it takes to put a book together. I was also surprised by the financial investment—it was more than I expected. But through it all, I realized the importance of being committed if you truly want your book to succeed. Do you have any suggestions to help aspiring writers become better? I don’t know if I’m qualified to give advice since I’m new to this myself. I didn’t have anyone guiding me—just the Holy Spirit. But if I could say one thing to someone starting out, it would be this: If writing is something you truly desire, then pursue it wholeheartedly. Don’t hold back. What do you think makes a good story? I believe a good story is one that’s personal and rooted in real-life experiences. It should also provide insight or encouragement that can help the reader in their own life journey. EC
