Education Essential: • Degree qualified in a construction relevant discipline (Engineering, Surveying or Construction Project Management) • Professional qualification in construction project management • Leadership or management experience of delivering mixed portfolio of construction projects Desirable: • Masters level qualification in Project Management (or relevant construction discipline) • Chartered RIBA, RICS, CIOB • Accredited qualification in supplier and (construction) supply chain management Experience Essential: • Management of large capital expenditure programmes including technical review / appraisal • Planning and delivering major construction and minor works projects • Planning and management of a mixed portfolio of major and minor capital projects • Projects delivery experience in Higher Education or similar sector (NHS, Government, etc.) • lead and develop a team of professional construction and minor works project managers: setting direction, empowering staff, and managing performance • Commitment to delivering Estates Projects to a high professional standard Knowledge Essential: • Construction and minor works financial management skills • Construction and minor works contracts and supplier management skills

Skills & Abilities Essential: • Excellent spoken and written communication skills. Communication skills are paramount in this role as is the need to be able to communicate with many different stakeholders, explain clearly construction and minor works projects to widely differing audiences with widely differing styles and needs • Ability to negotiate effectively and flexibly to secure good value for money • Ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, gain their confidence and persuade them to cooperate with initiatives where required, thereby earning the respect and trust of College of academic and non-academic senior colleagues • An understanding of the need for excellent customer service and an ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with key staff and all stakeholders and the evaluation of existing service provision to ensure appropriate developments and innovative solutions are proposed. • Ability to analyse large amounts of data from a range of sources , drawing conclusions and presenting them in a clear and concise format • Ability to work independently, flexibly and supportively • Proven ability to work collaboratively, a team player who contributes to team events and the work of the section as a whole. • Ability to keep abreast of relevant changes within the sector and within the College • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to negotiate, motivate, influence, persuade and build relationships in an enthusiastic and diplomatic way. • Excellent time management skills; the ability to plan and juggle a number of tasks and meet deadlines under pressure • Ability to take an innovative approach and solve problems pragmatically and creatively • Ability to manage lead and manage a large professional team to ensure the successful delivery of service and act as a mentor/coach to support their professional development and monitoring of team against objectives. • Confident user of computer software packages at intermediate level, including Microsoft Office products
