Livable Communities Housing: Support housing options that are safe, affordable and attainable for all ages and abilities. Roadway Safety: Provide transportation solutions that are safer, more reliable and accessible for all road users (e.g., driving, walking, public transit). Disaster Preparedness and Response: Ensure an all-ages lens is incorporated into preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation efforts. 2025 LOCAL PRIORITIES Housing Missing Middle: Increase the diversity and supply of age-friendly housing through reforming land-use regulations, zoning changes and the support of Accessory Dwelling Units. Age-in-Place Design: Develop affordable, accessible housing that meets consumer demand and decreases institutionalization. Protection of Housing Rights: Ensure fair and equitable choices in housing through anti-discrimination policies and source of income protections. Public-Use Transportation and Spaces Complete Streets: Increase safety for all road users (e.g., walking, biking, driving, etc.). Improved Transportation Options: Expand the availability of both public and private transportation options and provide sufficient funding for community-based land use plans. Improved Public Spaces: Adapt public spaces to incorporate accessible, comfortable and functional features for use by residents of all ages. Age-Friendly Network of States and Communities Cities and Counties: Encourage local communities to enroll in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities and to implement Age- Friendly Action Plans. Fraud Prevention Specialized Crime Resources and Personnel: Motivate local law enforcement to designate one or more full-time positions to address fraud, exploitation and crimes against older adults.

AARP Florida 2025 Legislative Priorities

AARP Florida advocates for policies and programs which accomplish the following: Health Security Nursing Home Quality: Improve nursing home conditions by addressing staffing standards and training, increased enforcement and oversight of existing standards. Home and Community Based Services (HCBS): Increase funding for a wider range of HCBS through Medicaid, the Older Americans Act, general revenue programs and other programs that offer long-term services and supports. Family Caregiver Support: Develop and implement state-level strategies to support family caregivers. Improved Use of Technology: Promote the expansion of Florida’s use and accessibility of technology for health care services. Consumer Protection Adult Guardianship: Safeguard the rights and autonomy of individuals under guardianship, promoting less restrictive alternatives and use of guardianship as an option of last resort. Vulnerable Adult Protection: Improve interagency collaboration, data collection and reporting procedures for all vulnerable adult victim cases. Fraud, Exploitation and Unfair Business Practices: Protect consumers from predatory business practices, as well as the crimes of exploitation and fraud. Utilities: Secure the right to affordable, accessible and reliable telecommunications, energy, water services and high-speed internet.
